BERWICK v WORKINGTON (NDL) 7pm SATURDAY 20th

Recommended Posts

The return of the "Comics" after five years (far too long) absence should have Shielfield swinging on Saturday!

GHT Bullets:   1 Connor Coles, 2 Archie Freeman (r/r), 3 Jamie Halder, 4 Danny Phillips, 5 Greg Blair (capt) 6 Mason Watson, 7 Josh Embleton

Comets:  1 Lee Complin (guest), 2 Ace Pijper, 3 Sam McGurk, 4 Harry McGurk, 5 Luke Crang (capt), 6 Kelsey Dugard, 7 Elliot Kelly

The shrewd addition of Lee Complin for Connor Bailey will give the visitors a considerable boost, and their line-up is certainly stuffed full of former Berwick riders who have represented Berwick at a number of levels --- but with the GHT Bullets yet to lose an NDL league or play-off match at Shielfield since their formation, Kevin Little's squad will certainly be shooting straight, and aiming to maintain the home record.

Added attraction will be a 6-heat NJL contest between the Academy and the visiting Workington Meteors

Academy: 1 Kieran Douglas, 2 Owen Booth, 3 Liam Morris, 4 Rocco Webb

Meteors: 1 Callum Foy, 2 Laylan Richardson, 3 Emerson Betty, 4 Casper Kluczniak

Comets followers going over to Berwick -- the club's nearest local derby -- on Saturday night should note the early-bird offer of advanced e-tickets by Bullets:

Adults/Concessions/OAP/Students are only £12, Accompanied children (under 16) free

Buy online before Saturday from: https://www.berwickspeedway.com/tickets/

Pay on the day price (cash at turnstiles or e-ticket) £14

21 races (National Development League match + Northern Junior League) -- tapes up at 7pm

Gutted I can’t make this one but it’s good to see the old rivalry between Workington and Berwick is back.

I’m Predicting a very close score tonight with the Comets taking a narrow 44-46 win

Give us a C

Not sure how missing your No.1 gives you a boost.  .

Complin is a decent choice of guest, but not as good as having Bailey as Comets own No.1.

Maybe missing Bailey gives Berwick a boost, but I still think Workington should have enough to win this one

I suspect Lee -- around Shielfield -- will comfortably outscore what might have been expected from Connor (and no disrespect to him, he's doing well this season).....        But l'm not sure about your prediction of match result......

Has a team ever had both reserves scoring 0 in a meeting before?

With Archie missing, it would expected that the reserves would fill in and get more rides. A 4 rider team and they did well against a well fancied team..

I'm sure there's been matches when both reserves were injured in heat 2

Berwick vs Rye House, August 2012.
In heat 2, both Robert Ksiezak and Rob Branford crashed in heat 2 for the Bandits. Kziezak took no further part in the meeting, Branford managed to race in the rerun, but withdrew after.
They were already using RR for Seb Alden, so basically rode the meeting with four riders. They still won 50-39.
