Oxford vs Plymouth - BSN Series - 17 May

Recommended Posts

Tough meeting for Plymouth, but can only beat what’s in front of you I guess. Scott Nicholls continues to roll back the years - his pass on Ben Barker was brilliant - and Sam Masters never looked threatened. Henry Atkins also seems to be getting better each week, and Ryan Kinsley certainly wasn’t outclassed.

Felt sorry for those Plymouth fans, though. The ones that made the trip were fantastic. Fair play.

Oh and heat 15 tonight was one of the strangest things I've seen in a while.

It has made it onto speedway shambles twitter page. Oxford played the ref! Brilliant :D

I wouldn't have thought what they did was allowed? I was under the impression if a reserve doesn't "qualify" for heat 15 he can't go in it, even after a tape touch?

Also find it very strange that Trigger got a 4th ride & Coles was used in heat 15. Almost seems like a slap in the face (by both clubs) of any fans who paid good money for a "nothing" meeting!

But Atkins v Barker was a close contest (see ht 14) whereas Masters/Nicholls v anyone would probably have been a non-event. Taking out Worrall in heat 13 was the truly inexplicable change

Heat 15 at Oxford last night drives another nail into the coffin for anyone who thinks is a creditable sport anymore.

Heat 15: Barker, Atkins, Kinsley, Coles (F-rem, Ret) 61.19  3-3, 58-32

I thought it was a good race between Barker and Atkins, with Atkins almost getting past Barker a couple of times (which he had already done previously in Heat 14). Don't you agree, or weren't you in attendance last night and merely commentating from afar?

Dunno why Worrall wasn't in Heat 13, though!

Christ, steady on! The score was 55-29 going into the final heat of a match that meant nothing to either side.

He's pulled out tonight - shoulder injury - suggests he was in some discomfort last night. (He retired in ht 14 and missed heats 13 and 15)

It still doesn't make a lot of sense, though, does it?  If he was pulled out of Heat 13 with a shoulder injury, why then place him in Heat 14 as a tactical sub?

The Plymouth tactics last night were 'interesting' to say the least!

Maybe the meeting was meaningless as far as the competition goes but for fans paying hard earned cash all 15 heats mean something especially to travelling fans.

Heat 15s continue to be a joke as top riders are continually not being nominated or declining to ride in it.

Time to go back to the old 13 heat formula imo and have 13 heats that are meaningful.

Yeah, I'm sure the travelling Plymouth fans would have loved to see Nicholls and Masters ram home another 5-1!

I was there, and the Plymouth fans cheered Barker home in heat 15. I'm sure they were glad of something (however small) to celebrate. Maybe one of them can clarify if they are on here.

It also gave the Oxford youngsters yet more track time, which can only be a good thing for the Chargers. I'm sure there are cases where heat 15s are a joke, but don't think it's the case on this occasion. Win-win in my opinion.

There's an idea, give even less value for money!

Agree with most of what you say other than  the old 13 heat bit.

£40 to be cheated out of seeing the top riders race is a total joke despite what others think. imo

Yes, because there's nothing like giving the fans extra like going back to an antiquated heat formula and taking two races away from them!   :rolleyes:

Heat 15 was a decent race last night, because it was a competitive race.  Heat 13 was not, because of the strange withdrawal of Richie Worrall.  Sam Masters and Scott Nicholls romped home easily in that one.

Was there any news on Howarth? Know he was withdrawn after ht1 fall but did it say what the injury was??

It was a very awkward fall mid track where he overcooked it and locked up then got thrown of the bike.

Hopefully it's nothing to serious, maybe he aggravated the injury he'd just came back from.
