Got mine on Thursday for a change, usually Friday or Saturday, but the post in Workington is crap, not blaming speedway star at all
FromBendThree
Farewell Speedway Star. Been a fixture of my life for nigh on 60 years. Cost of living, withdrawal of fuel allowance, council tax going up. For me, too much Sgp and foreign in magazine. Writing about riders I never see (no TV) or care about. Too much grass and far too much about defunct clubs. Burford bores on, Burbidge burbles Add in Royal Fail delivering magazine on any day but Thursday and I will do without. Eastbourne gone forever, Iwade in Kent of all places and ….

Same problem every time I try to purchase a copy of the Star and use a self scan check out - the barcode not recognized. Tried purchasing at WH Smith in Carlisle and Workington and the barcode would not scan and staff had to enter manual code. They said always happens with Speedway Star! And it's not just WH Smith were the barcode for the Star won't scan. Same problem at Morrisons and Asda!!! There is definitely some issue with the damn barcode!!! FromBendThree
Sad but the Star is on a precipitous decline . Far too much reliance on what is called UGC - user generated content. Local papers went down the route of regurgitating nonsense from social media. Circulations plummeted as a result. I’m quite capable of reading my fellow posters nonsense (and my own) here, on FB and other places. Star should stick to professional news and analysis. Are you planning a monthly attack on the Speedway Star? For the record I think they do a very good job.

It’s fine that you think they do a good job - more feedback for them.

topaz325
I thought there might have been a feature on the training camp held at Workington a few weeks ago , I know it was mentioned in Peter Oakes column last week, maybe its in this weeks? This is far better and much more valuable for a business which can quietly delete any criticism sent their way.

I often by the star in Tescos - this happened to me - not bought it for a while for various reasons, but it wouldn't scan for me - easily fixed by manually entering the barcode number etc. I imagine this is a tesco issue however!
marko
Had to manually input the code for good couple of months now in Smiths but yesterday I brought one in Smiths at Liverpool Street station and to my shock it actually scanned. ps outside of the issues of barcodes failing to scan, I still love the magazine, I would not buy it if I didn’t. i especially love the throwback features to the sport before my time 70s and earlier, great piece this week on West Ham, wish I had been alive to have visited Custom House in its hey day.
