Our club was doing fine until Holdergate. Chapman allegedly needed clubs to make up the numbers, no more than that IMO. He's been pretty well AWOL and silent ever since takeover, always allegedly continually wanting out and leaving others to run the show but then usually showing up when there is something to break. If the likes of Oakes, Frost, Rathbone etc had been running Peterborough Speedway then they would be out there fighting hard to keep the club going. What have we heard from the current owner? One centre green message at the end of last season saying that he'd secured 2023 season, but at what cost? He been silent ever since. We get Mick Bratley on local radio fighting hard for the club which says much about the current administration?

This one million percent

As well as the risk of a reduced crowd I expect clubs/promotions don't want to risk flying riders over for a rain off and the costs incurred by that. These early decisions are becoming more and more common and I'm pretty sure it's all about costs.

This could become very embarrassing yet again

It was the right call, the forecast was horrendous.

Anyway it’s raining in Alwalton now, not a lot, but it is raining.

Riders often have a rain off guarantee written into their contracts (if they’re smart ;)) to cover any wasted travel costs should they arrive in the country before a meeting is postponed. It used to be (not sure if it still is) that if you call a meeting off post midday you still had to pay rent to the Showground. It can be very expensive to call a meeting off after midday.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

The forecast has been wrong most of the last 2-3 weeks. It was a guess

This was a local derby fixture on a Bank Holiday, with three Grand Prix riders in the line-up, and you think the meeting was abandoned based on guesswork? No Promoter would willingly lose such a plum fixture.

It's currently sunny with a bit of drizzle in the wind.

It was a bad forecast, but the decision was made more than 24 hours before the meeting. Every man and his dog knows how the forecast changes throughout the day. It’s always more accurate on the day, so if the forecast was still the same early this morning (which it wasn’t it had obviously changed) then they could still have made an early call off to save people from travelling.

Take Fridays example at Scunthorpe.

The roads were wet when I got up & a further forecast was for possible rain from 3 till around 6pm. Well that was wrong because we had temperatures of 17C & t shirt weather. On Scunthorpe twitter, Rob even had to go out & water the track at 4.30. What we didn't expect was the thunderstorm that came down after 6.30, flooding the roads & it lasted  about 30 minutes before blowing over. Look at Scunthorpe facebook to see the damage done in 30 minutes.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't!!!

I’m not against an early call off based on a weather forecast, but again, at least wait until the morning of the meeting to get a much more accurate forecast. Are we now at a stage where we’re all accepting and happy for meetings being postponed more than 24 hours in advance based on a ropey forecast? Never used to happen.
