28 day facility for injured/missing riders

Recommended Posts

There are, at the moment, 3 teams using facilities for injured/missing riders

Peterborough missing Pedersen, injured on 27/3 after 1/2 a lap but now quit club.

Wolves missing Becker injured in Slovakia on 2/4(1st Wolves meeting 3/4)

Scunthorpe missing Kennedy injured in Australia, mountain biking. (1st Scunthorpe meeting 7/4).

I think all 3 teams are using the 28 day facility but read that Scunthorpe have to sign a rider after the 5/5 after the facility has ended.

What is the situation with the Premiership clubs as both are using guests on Bank Holiday Monday?

Yes, if their rider isn't fit or they haven't signed a replacement.

Stick a 2 pointer at reserve and use R/R

So you would be happy to see your club, having paid your money to get in   , have a very weakened side just so that the guest rules are not used?

If they'd had a whole month to sign somebody and had failed to do so then yes.

Guests and facilities are being used far too often and for too long, it's further damaging speedway's credibility.

If I had my way it would be a guest for a missing Number One, R/R for either heat leader missing and a junior/team asset (although this is open to abuse) for second strings and reserves.

The rules have changed this year.

Facilities are granted by the SCB Manager - Neil Vatcher, he determines the length of the facility but my information is it’s going to be limited this year after the furore caused by the Kennett situation at Plymouth last year.

The most important change is when clubs are granted No official facility.

In the past teams were forced to use a 2 point junior rider.

This year teams are able to use a rider whose CMA is 25% less than the rider who is missing.

To put this into context Wolves can continue to use Scott Nicholls to cover for Becker as Nicholls current GSA of 5.28 is at least 25% below Becker,s current GSA of 7.11 (7.47 home). Or can use another rider up to an average of 5.33.

Thats my understanding of the regulations for 2023.

Wolves would possibly have used Chris Harris to replace Luke Becker, but Chris Harris is already replacing Nicki Pedersen. It's in the best interests of the sport that Chris Harris has his 28 day facility extended whereby he can guest for other clubs for a limit of only 28 days per month. Scott Nicholls and Rory Schlein should be given the same facility, If not the integrity of the sport will be seriously at risk.

The old national league worked fine without guests

Absolutely! Eastbourne had a conveyor belt of riders ready to fill in any gaps...and, of course, the old Second Half encouraged riders in that they often mixed with the established riders. Even at Oxford when we entered the old National League we had riders waiting in the wings to be given a chance.

Great point...

Given the "25% rule" or whatever it is, then Kyle Howarth too, may need to be included..

As he rides in the Top 5 for Sheffield (the team tipped to win the league), but can only get into Kings Lynn as a reserve..

Meaning KL must be stronger than Sheffield.....:D

Yet the KL fans seem to be always moaning they are rubbish...;)

100%....

As the current nonsense stops many of the tens of thousands who have stopped going from attending...

What you have now left are just the die hard fans of the sport just happy to see any racing..

With many of them colluding with the Promoters that what they watch has some relevance and status...

I am amazed Poland hasnt copied the UK model to be honest.....:D
