I think Poole will win comfortably tomorrow night. This was a very entertaining meeting with the team neck 'n neck until the last 2 heats. The refereeing however was simply abysmal examples being Gilks was left @ the start in heat 1 & then excluded in a later heat when skittled off by Kerr on the first bend. Oxford did well to win but were a 8 man team with the addition of the referee. Please get this referee more training or a visit to speck savers or both! LisaColette
Watching the Garry May interview on YT, he said Jake practiced a lot at the track on Saturday and has also spent 1k on equipment. Seems to have paid off!

I thought Gilkes was harshly excluded in heat 6. Kerr didn't make contact but if Gilkes hadn't turned hard he would have. All four back for me. I also thought Barker was slightly disappointing - especially when he threw away the lead in heat 14 - while Turner was impressive in his first competitive rides at SBA. It was somewhat fortunate that the rain (which had not been predicted anywhere) fell because initially the track was a dustbowl. The amount that came down was just enough to make the surface fit for good racing without ever looking like causing an abandonment. On a final note, I thought the crowd was poor.

I heard the promotor say he had to hold of watering due to the black clouds , light watering after heat 2 , then the rain started . Great job done to ensure the meeting ran . The crowd was poor as was the updates , where was Greenlander ?

Maybe its the psychological £20 barrier?

HGould
Do feel sorry for Plymouth Speedway that the local Soccer Team is one of the most progressive outside top 2 tiers and likely to go up to Championship and the Basketball Team doing well too. If footy team do go up likely to sell 20,000 season tickets and have massive local media interest. No idea what Plymouth break even is but hopefully their crowd builds up as it warms up weather wise. I do wonder if Saturdays may work for them in summer months especially with no footy? Also they streamed every meeting last year and is that counter productive and made some walk up support a bit lazy? . A group of 3 adults is 60 quid through gate yet probably a fiver profit from stream. A hundred like that is £1500 from your top line before they've had food and drink every meeting.

Presumably the 'black clouds' had been around all day, because it was clear that the amount of water put on the track prior to heat 1 was hopelessly inadequate. Certainly no weather forecast anywhere said rain so I could not understand why not. It seems to me what you are saying is that Mark Phillips said 'I will hold off watering due to the black clouds, but I'll just go out now and water the track'. Who waters the track when they are reasonably convinced rain is coming ?? The way I saw it, Phillips was very, very lucky indeed. 19 hours ago, Skidder1 said: I did hear from a very reliable source that the attendance was very poor - less than 500!! I think it's rather unlikely they'll manage to sell 20k season tickets with a ground that has a 17k capacity.

It is looking very likely that Plymouth Argyle will get promotion , the council has given them ground for a bigger stadium , and apparently the Gladiators will be able to take over their current stadium as long as they are able to provide argyle with a quality training pitch for Argyle . Fingers crossed
