Just hope he is his own man and doesn’t become a puppet.

No chance of Phil becoming a puppet, Im sure the promoters won’t interfere and will just let him get on with the job and be a success and then take the plaudits!!

The acid test will be when he makes a decision that’s against one of the Directors clubs.

I hope he got at least a 3 year contract.

He can have complete control, until it affects any of the top Clubs, then his power will be zero, the cartel will not relinquish power to anyone outside their inner circle.

Surely it's the 'top clubs' that have appointed him?! Who else is in 'the cartel'?

A bit like Danny Ford's statement re Drew Kemp not getting a place though

Paraphrasing he said "they" reduced the points limit to encourage the release of the top riders whilst "we" kept them and its the like of Drew that gets replaced by a 4 pointer

I'd say that he is the "they" rather than the "we" but it still happened.......

...except that Danny didn't arrive at the meeting til after the points reduction was agreed by others!!!! The meeting was held on the day of the Pairs at Oxford and Danny got stuck in traffic and arrived mid-meeting!!

Unfortunately the 'my dad is bigger than your dad' argument didn't hold up this time!!

That would explain it.

And would also suggest that Discovery can see a positive future for the Sport in the UK, and obviously their own business, if someone can almost "save the promoters from themselves" and run the sport like a bona fide sport that wants to be taken seriously...

You wont get anywhere near the sports potential (Poland proves what it can become), if fans and major sponsors cannot take it seriously, (even many die hard fans of the actual sport struggle)...

With some major names back, it's the best year in a long time to try and build some positive momentum, so a good time to take the control away of those who would struggle to understand how to deliver it...

Probably says more about me than anything else but I know have an image of Wacky Races in my head with Danny the 'Dick Dastardly' character shaking his fist whilst stuck in traffic :D

I'm still thinking about who should be which of the other participants :)

Lame excuse IMO - it would've been more than that one little session to come up with the final plan. He wouldve had his chance. Ultimately he is still within the "we"

A good interview in the Speedway Star with Phil....

States he may "upset some", but he does seem to have a lot of clear  understanding of what needs fixing to make the sport credible in the UK..

Let's hope he has the mandate to do so...

As long as BV has as much chance as anyone else of being peed off :)
