German Bundesliga 2023

After a forced break of two years, a Speedway Bundesliga is to start again next year. The fact that the title of speedway team champion in Germany was recently awarded in a so-called "one-day final" should finally belong to history. In 2023 - it's a done deal - the title will again be awarded via a racing series. Representatives of the German Motorsport Association (DMSB) and some ambitious speedway clubs have now agreed on this decision. This was preceded by a number of rounds of talks and negotiations in which it was initially explored which clubs from Germany wanted to get involved in a newly organized Bundesliga. Ultimately, in addition to the reigning German champions, MC "Nordstern" Stralsund, MC Güstrow (both Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) and MSC Brokstedt from Schleswig-Holstein, three clubs from the north of the republic agreed early on to participate. From the south, the MSC Olching from near the Bavarian capital Munich joins them.

In addition to the joint organizational talks between the participants, those responsible for the association and those interested in the league, the three northern clubs had previously worked out a joint regulation in a working group, which was discussed in detail with all those involved, refined and now submitted to the DMSB for approval. "It was particularly important to us to act with the utmost transparency and at eye level," says Steffen Höppner from MC "Nordstern". The reorganization of the Speedway-Bundesliga should above all be about the sporting balance in order to present the spectators, fans, economic partners and the clubs with a high-quality and sporty interesting product at a high level. The mode of the league is very simple. Each club in the league meets each of the other league members in one home and one away race. Currently, with four participating clubs, this would mean six races per club. "Three home and three away races are easy to complete and should be attractive for speedway fans," says Michael Schubert, chairman of MSC Brokstedt. For Bernd Sagert from MC "Nordstern" Stralsund, the Bundesliga is also fundamental for the preservation and development of rail sports in Germany. "We need a league that, as the highest team competition, also radiates the appropriate value." In the next step, the participating clubs want to develop a joint and uniform marketing of the Bundesliga.

All representatives of the participating clubs agree that a trend-setting step has been taken with the newly created Bundesliga. "A start has been made - the future will show how the league will develop in the future," was the tenor after the most recent round of talks. The fans can already look forward to an interesting sporting competition that will certainly herald a new era in speedway sport after the past two years.
