I’m sure 5 of the 7 Vikings riders spent time i the reserve berth thar pts season .

Great memories from Craven park from an ex season pass holder at the Vikings

Indeed it was :D.  Without checking, think Joel Parsons, Emiliano Sanchez & Ross Brady shared the reserve berths, pretty sure the other 4 (Paul Thorp, Garry Stead, Magnus Karlson & the late Emil Kramer) remained in the top 5.  Still have great memories of one heck of a season :D....

The biggest result was when the Vikings won away at Edinburgh 43-47 and Hulls

No 1 Paul Thorp and No 5 Garry Stead  only scored 4 pts between them from 8 programmed rides

Absolutely, Thorpy usually scored well at Edinburgh and the Vikings were nervous until Ross Brady & Magnus Karlsson (Monarchs of 2003 for clarification) pulled a result out of the bag, Ht15 5-1 from memory.  Team building 101 was almost always "begin with a high average no.1", Hull's solid 2004 team made promoters & team managers think again....

You're spot on there Martin regarding the reserves etc.

It's all down to opinion, of course, but you are asking for trouble if you build a team around two heats (13 & 15 in this case). To me, you are better building "strength in depth" rather than too "top heavy".

You want both, build top heavy & hope your reserves improve, or build strength in depth & hope one of your top 3 become a superstar!
