BrummieRebel
What's the prices at Brum now? I want to take my nephew but Rebels closed before he was old enough, obviously talk about Rebels opening back up but I'd like to take him before then. Tbf the kids and student prices seem good value and are about half of what Poole were charging last season?

gazzac
If you look at inflation £20 in 2022 is about the same as £10 was in 2000. I always like to pay as little as possible for anything that I can, but realistically it's still a £10 sport from 20 years ago, but inflation has meant it's now £20. I'm not defending promotions and money is tight but unless all speedway becomes NL level or lower it can't go below £20 really.

That's true... but.... with teams folding etc., many have to travel to see speedway. Giving Diamondboy and myself as examples... to get to say Redcar (our nearest track) it's (let's assume) £20 to get in + £3 Programme + approx £10 fuel to get there and back (cheaper if shared obviously, but still "extra" cost). It's not "cheap" anymore, especially in the current financial climate and the extra admission prices just puts more people off attending. To answer your question regards admission prices at Newcastle in 2022 it was £18 for adults (and I'd guess it would be £20 in 2023 IF we had run). uk_martin
4 hours ago, StevePark said: and the extra admission prices just puts more people off attending. Does it really? If you want to go you WILL go, whether it's £18 or £20. Looking at the 2007 season, there was an average attendance of 2,500 - 3,000, paying £14.00 admission (full fare). There were 30 fixtures that season, so the seasons spend could have been up to £420 in admission alone. The 2023 season promises 11 fixtures for certain, at £20 per meeting = £220 for the years activities. Possibly a bit more IF the Brummies make it into the play-off's, semi-finals of the KOC etc. (No guarantees of that judging by the team managers trophy cabinet) So a seasons worth of speedway now promises to be £200 more affordable than it was 15 years ago. And predicted attendances are anyone's guess, but hopefully higher than the 400 - 450 average last year. So, the bigger question is...who wants to go any more, at any price? That price would certainly put me off attending. The diehards will go no matter what, others will pick & choose their matches depending on the opposition. Fans who don't feel £20 is value for money may go even less. I don't know the right answer as halfing the cost doesn't guarantee double the crowd! But I do feel £20 is too much for second tier speedway!

As the season goes on, can you post on each fixtures thread which meeting you are not going to see because the admission price is £20 that you would have gone to see if it was only £18. For Berwick who have stopped Concessions ( their prerogative) it’s going from £13 to £20 pay on the day.For me including travel it’s too much for me and my wife, certainly will pick and choose ( although it’s hard too tell how a match will pan out). Can’t speak for anyone else though. Not all Pensioners are the richest people in the country as some would have you believe.Value for money is coming into play now for me £50+ for a night at Berwick.!!!!
