Great start to the season for Workington Reserve Luke Harrison, who was guesting at number 5 for Mildenhall, at Kent today with 8 points.

He looked very fast today. Was excluded in one race when he and Ben Morley tangled crossing the line. He certainly wasn't afraid of taking the high line around bends 3 and 4. He's definitely one to follow, wherever he's riding.

This update was posted on Luke's Facebook Page:

As most of you are aware Luke had a crash yesterday whilst racing. He is currently in Sheffield children's hospital receiving treatment for 2 broken vertebrae a broken shoulder and bruising to the lung. He is in good spirits and thanks everyone for the get well messages.

Bad news for the lad get well soon, dumb question are they long term injuries?

At this moment in time there is no time set on how long before he returns. After a conversation with him today he is eager to know timescales but he is under no illusions that regardless of his desire to ride he won't be rushed back as at 15 his career should he have one is all in front of him

It's bizarre to think of a Speedway rider being in a children's hospital. Anyway get well soon Luke

It certainly is and made us all laugh when he asked for a proper bed . In fairness though it's a specialist hospital and the care he's getting is wonderful. Big up to the NHS

Another serious injury at scunthorpe?  Or is it just me imagining things.

The crash was 100% down to what we would consider to be the poorest lap he's put in since his 125 days the 3 previous laps were very good . no fault of scunthorpe speedway or the facilities there. There's nothing to imagine so let's not stir up another campaign as there already one happening on Facebook

Can't imagine actual facts, and the facts are this is happening far more at Scunthorpe than any other racetrack in the Uk.

Scunthorpe is used far more than any other tracks though at this time of the year in can be in operation 5 or 6 days a week

Please shoot me down if I'm wrong, but watching the videos of Workington. It looks a beautiful set up, big, fast, wide open track... But am I the only one who's worried that it looks like it's going to be another dust bowl...? I am not getting at any of the lads and lasses who have worked extremely hard to get it open, it's just a little concerning that's all... Please tell me I'm wrong if I am and it will be set up differently for race days...
