This from 1979, nothing much changes apart from the biro warriors have turned to keyboard warriors:

brilliant, thats when men were men, proof we are living in a snow flake society, very brave riding from Kelly and Gordon in those conditions. even the crowd looked harder.

Havent read through this thread , but why cant we replace Ellis with Bomber ? At least if they have dirt on it , he'd battle for points. There are weak links , then there is Ellis :D

Been done to death, you'll have to read the thread.

I don't need to look in the annals, I was there

Ditto.  And I was there & gutted when Kolodziej bottled it in Pardubice.  He's more interesting to watch than any retained riders that required a permanent wildcard for 2023 series with the possible exception of Thomsen.

Lemon not putting his best rider at reserve could have cost them the win

Lidsey was probably the best Aussie.  Wee you expecting Doyle to be? Chris Holder was reserve but never appeared.

I realise the Czechs pulled a tactical masterstroke putting Milik at reserve which got them into the race off but I hope the Poles don't deploy Zmarzlik at reserve fur the final.

Ditto.  Lindgren.  Sweden. Race off.

I see from tonight's face-off card France, Sweden and Czech Republic have all got their best rider at reserve, is Berge, Lindgren, Milik.

I wonder if UK is planning that for tomorrow, be foolish not to I say.

Requires a little bit of tactical know how though so I wouldn't count on it.

Think that might just have handed the advantage to Australia as the other three using their best rider at reserve will cancel each other out.

I can only see an advantage to putting the top rider at reserve in the first two rounds and if you are one of the lesser teams battling between third and fourth.  If you're just hoping to third place to progress to the play-off and need your best rider to mop up the easy points then it could be worthwhile.

But if you're going for the win in the race-off or final, then I see no advantage.  You want your top four out there every race and your best man looking to dominate all races, not just coming in to pick up the "easy" points.

No brainer i'd say, more rides for your best rider has to bring an advantage surely?

They don't get more rides.  They just get the opportunity to pick and choose when to use those rides.  This may offer an advantage to a lesser team in the opening rounds if they are trying to avoid fourth place and sneak into the play-off.  You know you are going to be using tacticals and you can target your closest rival's weakest rides.  But I see no advantage in the play-off or Final when you're aiming to win the meeting.

Oh didn't realise that, so the top four all get six rides then. Not having a programme means I just watch it as it happens!
