Just letting you know that I've just received an email from John; he's been banned for another month...

So we don't have to provide HISTORICAL information about speedway in Bhutan or Mali...

Incidentally, I once wrote a short story about a group of superheroes called The Pengers. It was published in a magazine called Comics Unlimited. I can't remember now if Gustix or Speedyguy or even Jack Keen featured. There was a follow-up which sadly remains unpublished to this day.

Your know, as close as I lived to the park, I've never been there! Probably because I never had any historic information...

I went there many times as a kid. Was always fascinated by the dinosaurs and the gorilla statue. Plus i used to like the small zoo they had there

Then as an adult i went a few times to the athletics. Plus once at least i remember they had a Drag car or maybe Custom / Drag car show at the inside arena (swimming baths ?) Saw one of the first skateboard events there, plus an Emmylou Harris gig and i think i saw John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy etc in a blues show, both in the concert bowl

I went to the athletics once, in 1976, with a couple of schoolmates. It was sponsored by Philips, and they had a hut with some TV's in. My mates went in, and they had the 1976 World Pairs Final on! They called me in, and I was the 100th person to go in, and I won a free radio!

Went to a few Friday Night Athletic meetings -  most memorable was one where we arrived at 7:15pm and the Pole Vault had started. By the end of the night's schedule (around 10:00pm) the pole vault was not only still going on but the 'star' hadn't even taken his first jump! Anyway, after about 15 minutes all the other competitors had finished their attempts so enter the last man, the bar was immediately set to a new world record height, out came the athlete and his one jump that night was a new WR - his name Sergai Bubka

Just going with this....i found a pic of motorcycle chariot racing from 1936(presumably a novelty attraction at one of the 2 speedway meetings held that year), and then stumbled across this

Just popped up on my timeline. Never seen it before. The subway under Crystal Palace Parade. Being restored

Ist möglicherweise ein Bild von Denkmal

Yeah, I was reading about that a few weeks ago. It amazes me how much cool stuff gets neglected and/or forgotten...

Can remember going to watch motor racing there in 60s, bloody boring afternoon. Then they had some sort of cubs/scouts jamboree celebration in the same decade at the athletics stadium, about 10,000 watching, my troop was 24th. Camberwell. We had to do various exercise routines in middle of stadium. Dont know why the Palace didnt develop it, better than Selhurst Park i reckon.
