If your club only has income from admissions, programme sales, advertising and sponsorship, then true fans would surely buy a programme to support their club?! Wouldn't they?

I always buy one but maybe in these times it is understandable some don't but I did think the majority bought one but maybe not.

The days of programme buying have been dwindling for many years. Still get the old stalwarts and traditionalists with their trusty old programme board and biro of course, but they seem to be getting less and less in number with each year that passes.

I don't have a programme board, never have, but I do buy a programme, filling it in between races with results and race times passes the time in between races, hardly ever look at it after the meeting but I like to think buying one is helping the club in a very small way.

So anybody who doesn't buy a programme isn't a true fan? Give over.

Speedway is expensive enough (too expensive) to get into nowadays without buying a programme, plus the cost of fuel makes it even more so, particularly in rural areas. British speedway is terrible at offering good VFM, it's about time that was addressed.

What you read in them is invariably on the internet via a club website or on here, already..

And some are months out of date if the initial meeting was rained off...

And at circa £20 now to get in "a night at the speedway" has become something many now need to plan in as part or their disposable income post all the living costs being paid..

A family of four in particular will be having to make some serious juggling of spending to afford attending their local track over the next season I would think...

Programmes, Car parking fees and even food may be getting a swerve just so people can afford to watch the action..

The really important part of the night...

Totally disagree. I’d wager there’s more that don’t than do..

I stand right by the programme sales table, and more people come up and buy than not.
If they are a couple or family, then yes they normally buy one to share between them, generally speaking.

I don't know about that, there are some programmes that have interesting content you won't find on the Internet.

Other way you could do it is give the supporters a choice, £260 for a season ticket that includes a programme, or £250 for one without. Colour code so that one season ticket is blue the other green so those on the gate know who gets a programme and who doesn’t. Probably too much hassle for those in charge but an idea nonetheless.

I was once told by a promoter a couple of years ago that they sold between 3 and 4 hundred programmes a meeting, and their average gate was around the 1500 mark. With the price increases just to get in amongst everything else, I’d imagine that number will fall further and surely the programme will be one of the main things sacrificed for those feeling the pinch.

I made a decision to buy a programme at the first meeting I attended in 1976, I have purchased a programme at every meeting since.

They are stored on boxes and every now and then get a viewing brining back memories that would otherwise disappear.

I am definitely in the yes to a programme camp !!

Absolutely couldn't agree more mine date back to1967.

It’s time for the sport to move into the future. That being an app with a scorecard that updates automatically. They could even charge a small nominal fee to use it across a season and might even turn a profit. Shock horror.

You cannot put an 'App' in the loft...:D

Fair enough. Certainly not the case I’m my experience.

It depends on the Programme though to be fair, some clubs go the extra mile while others just do the basics.

I certainly don’t think a lot of them are particularly good value and most of them offer very little content.

Hope not, a programme doubles as a shield to keep the muck off ya!

I think the way that some tracks simply almost "gave up" over the years, and just produced a "racing card"  suggests that programmes were "on their way out" at their tracks, and were not cost effective for them...

As has been said, there really should be a "real time" app available that updates each heat, aggregate score, times of each rider, average speed of each rider, averages up to the very moment, riders head to head history etc etc ..

Considering Speedway almost drowns itself in figures, it is a huge opportunity to use them more publicly.

Baseball is an example where "stats" get used to engage its punters, and keep then informed and hopefully interested..
