Today's forecasts diverge considerably. Here's a more promising one

I've always found XC Weather to be pretty accurate tbh and their forecast is showing windy but no rain today. Whether that's good enough to get a meeting on is a different matter. Let's hope so

Doubt it - certainly not got any better since I retired from attending meetings 3 years ago.

Hottest and driest summer since 1066 and still the same old problem trying to run meetings in early winter on c****y wet tracks in c**p weather for the spectators.

Never any urgency to complete the fixtures in summer - every club trots out lame excuses. No one is interested in solving the  problem as the mushrooms* that are speedway supporters will turn up regardless to fill the piggy bank of the “promoters”

* fed on s**t and kept in the dark.

Old Bob speaking 100% truth here. I've been saying for years that they should rattle through the league, and hold the play off finals on the August Bank Holiday. Can move into September as a last resort.

But no. Every year we fannny about in the cold and wet when nobody is interested and the racing is a lottery because riders are rusty and conditions are poor. Sadly it will

It's not rocket science.

They try to over-accomodate Clubs. Some want to run from mid March to late October (the old Len Silver concept "every Friday at 8" ) that in days gone by worked for him. Those of us over 60 will well remember pretty much ALL Clubs did this, although there were twice as many Clubs then as now.

In more recent times some Clubs actually prefer, mostly for financial reasons and gettin their optimum crowds, to run a shorter season. The Scottish Clubs with earlier main school holidays want to get as many Fixtures in July as an example, some of those in more tourist locations prefer to get there matchs in to suit (IOW when in the structure the best example)

They had the balls this year to deliver a  Legue programme that actually ENDED in mid August, but then totally ballsed it up by throwing in The Summer / Jubilee / what's it called this week, in July. That Competitiion not only stopped and split what was building in to a really competitive League programme but also caused the remaining league matches to increasingly become rain affected.

Simple solution, allow Clubs to stage a couple of early Open Meeting (IF they wish), start the KOC at Easter weekend / week, start the League the week after, schedule ALL League Fixtures to finish by 15 August, leave 1 week in interim (April to mid August) for second round KOC for any who progress. The have PLAY OFFS mid August to first week in September. Give every team 2 x BLANK dates from mid April to mid August for rain off provision and allow them to fill in with OPEN meetings IF they aren't needed.

THEN have a provision for an Autumn Competition along lines of 4 TT / Pairs for September / October ONLY for those that wish to enter and DONT penalise those Clubs who can have a voluntary "abstain" button if they don't want to run for financial / local considerations.

The season is to long now for the number of clubs taking part, easter to the august bank holiday is more than enough time to run a league with 2 home 2 away matches, with certain riders told your weekends away for personal glory are finished .

Zero chance of that, they've not been able to run 1 home and 1 away matches this year.

I don't get what the deadline is about 31st of October? Is it written into the rules?

Yes - page 8:

The period from 15 th March (8 th March when Easter
falls in March) to 31 st October (both inclusive).
Meetings may only be held outside this period where
specific written permission of the SCB has been given

Who "runs" the SCB?

Just need a letter to get all the fixtures done then. Not sure why though? To make the winners of a competition legal I presume.

Why put the 31st of October straight jacket on yourself though, why not just say until all competitions are complete?

In principle yes, but there other issues - notably insurance cover ceases on 31 Oct and visas may also expire on that date.

Why would any club that enjoys a fantastic attendance for any meeting in August BH week, choose to have play offs that early? It would be a waste of a decent pay day.
