Ipswich 2023

Not sure if this would work average wise but I’d take something along the lines of.

- Doyle

- Batch

- Ellis

- Riss

- Basso??

- Gust

- Hume

Not a huge Batch fan but his average is a steal for a 2nd string as opposed to heat leader. The number 5 would depend on what average we had left to play with. Whether the season is a success or not will depend solely on someone to back Doyle up and a young euro star on a low average that will significantly up their average.

The issue next season will be finding atleast one decent improver,, Doyles average is likely to drop a bit,,, Riss also Batch should stay the same ish,,, so where is the improvement,,,, we really do need an improver or 2 to stand any chance of being competitive,,,unless a serious back up rider for Doyle is found.. All I see happening is Doyle and 4 second strings and 2 reserves. We always had issues building a team without a genuine number 1,,,now we will have issues with building a team with one

Just look at Lynn,,, getting a 6.5 to 7 point rider on less than 5 I think it is. Belle Vue have Brennan and Blodorn,,, both will get better,,, Wolves will have Becker,, who gets better every year.

Like many others can't see the team not having Danny King in it. There's a few riders on small averages who in the past have gone well at Foxhall. Craig Cook, Heeps, Allen all could do a great job at 2/6. Batch has to ride at 2 you just look at the pairs him and Doyle ride so well together even against the stronger riders in the league but on a 5.57 I don't think you could have him at 2 unless we go for 4 5/6 pointers and try do a Peterborough from a couple of seasons ago

Basso was not great away from Peterborough so wouldn't be a decent No.5, although he has plenty of potential to improve.  Attitude alone is the reason I wouldn't have either Batch, Craig Cook or Ben Barker but that's my personal preference.  Riss is an odd one as he is also very inconsistent, if you're lucky you get 10 points, if not 2 points.  Maybe Nicki P would fancy a swan song in the UK :)

That's right regarding too many newcomers.  Frtom memeory before this season everyone was saying that Musielak would be wiping the floor with everyone but it didn't happen and he's had time over here before.  With Dudek I don't see that he'd pull up too many trees and would be asking for a lot of dosh.  I quite like Mike Bacon's side but wouldn't have Ellis and King in the same side, too inconsistent.

I think that you will find that those of us that flagged Musielak as a rider to watch, did so with the fact of how much that he could potentially put on from his starting average of 6:21.

If my memory serves me well myself and other predicted that he could potentially put on a point to point and half on his average.

He surpassed those expectations with a figure of 7:91, increasing his average by 1:70.

If Ipswich want to be successful next season and want to have Jason Doyle in their team they need to find a rider that is going to replicate Musielak's improvement this season.

Anyway who has been watching the Polish league will know that Musielak is the signing of the league. He should easily average over 8 points

Dornier, Steve0, noggin and 3 others reacted to this

I think this was one of the posts I remember but you're right Spin King in that he improved and this is what most title winners will have in their teams, improvers.  The performances at home and away are also important though because an improved average could just reflect home increase rather than overall which may benefit a team more - this is why stats are never simple.  What I was reflecting on was the difference between expectation based on Poland and what happens here in reality - particularly why someone like Dudek would be a risk.  Michelsen on a 6pt average would be very good value, good starter too.

Can’t disagree, think both Adam Ellis and nick Morris could be improvers with Foxhall as their home track and riding with Doyle - both have had some of their best seasons riding alongside him at Swindon. Realistic targets cost wise, add in riss Hume an exciting euro newcomer and another and be a very good season

The strongest side I can write down would be

1. Doyle 10.32
2. Batch 5.57
3. Wozniak 5.92
4. Covatti 5.27
5. Michelsen 6.02
6. Lidsey 5.16
7. Hume 3.98

other riders Riss 6.00 / Przedeplski 6.00 Woffinden 7.03

The strongest side I could write down is Zmarzlik, Lambert, Lindgren, Janowski, Madsen, Bewley & Dudek.

Seems about as likely in positions 3-6.

Wouldn’t have been against letting King go elsewhere and go down a different route to freshen things up. Might have been good for him as well as the club, only have to look at the new lease of life Kerr seemed to get from leaving Lynn.

On the other hand, not disappointed if he stays either. Makes more sense to keep him next year on his current average than it did this year. After a fantastic 2021, that was the time to be ruthless and let him go on an average that always looked too expensive.
