Emil will be able to race in the UK it will be announced next week alongside Hume. Done deal here we go

Looks like I will be watching speedway this year after all. I just wish they would throw the boat out a little more and get a new top young euro rider on a 4,, they could also then put the most suited rider to the track at reserve at different venues.

While I don’t disagree that would be great in an idea world, if Ipswich have managed to secure Doyle and Emil in this current financial climate that deserves healthy applause for how far they’ve pushed the boat out doesn’t it? Coupled with going and getting rew who doyle described as the best young Aussie coming through, when he made it known he wanted to race in uk this season surely every club would’ve jumped to get him

Yep they have done good,,, but always room to do better,,,to be the best you have to go above and beyond, and do that bit extra than everyone else,,,, same in all walks of life

How many speedway clubs have spent that bit extra and gone out of business tho, having a great team is only going to boost the gate numbers so far.

Do you think Danyon could be replaced during the season for a stronger rider if averages allow

Maybe the plan is for a few averages to drop early doors then they replace Danyon with Batch who rides at 2

Doesnt sound the ipswich way....

They did,,,, but they already had crowds that was way  below their break even figure.

Most plan, I would think, to run at an "affordable loss/tax reduction on a wider business", therefore running "below break even" is almost "par for the course" for many..

Workington's issue was four fold...

The actual size of the home wins...

Too many "unexpected" away wins, and, again, some by wide margins...

A change of race nights so "guests" were available for everyone else who ran Friday's...

And too many consecutive meetings, too close together, at the end of the season, meaning, even though they were often semi finals and finals, fans picked and chose which ones to attend due to cost..

I do hope Ipswich can get Emil over, and I am sure all will have been costed and funded as Chris Louis seems quite a switched on promoter...

Emil will definitely put a fair few extra hundred bums on seats at the away tracks, (first visit anyway), and, hopefully, will put Ipswich high up the table all season , thus keeping their punters interested enough to keep turning up at their own track after the initial "novelty value" has subsided...

It will be interesting to see if the a big star puts extra bums on seats theory is bourne out - Ipswich already have Doyle of course and crowds to my mind were fairly decent last year (particularly when either the Panthers or Stars were in town) - so can more be added?

Perhaps every club we visit should have to pay a surcharge to us for increased attendance it will bring in ;):P

I have always thought Tai's idea of only needing to do home matches had some mileage..

RR then away from home for your "global superstar"...

That way the track can give them the "big money" knowing that they won't be paying for the away leg from that meeting.

"If" Dudek wanted £5k a night then a track could give him that without having to pay another £5k for the away leg out of their gate money..

If every track had a global star, then you could then advertise the whole of the sport off the back of having "The World's Best" riding over here, without threatening the clubs' sustainability...

Ipswich are the team who can generate the largest crowds I would say...

Good Friday seems to always bring probably the largest domestic crowd of the season anywhere outside of the play offs..

I seem to remember over 4000 being quoted, and that wasnt actually too many years ago...

With circa 3000 more recently...

This is the frustrating thing with Ipswich, they have for years had the best crowds but the Louis' always play safe & won't do anything that could destabilise the club financially, working well within their means.

I remember figures of 6500-7000 being quoted for good Friday afternoon meetings in the early mid 90s.

Currently Ipswich also show what can be done a very professional out look with a good handle on social media with a sponsor who is passionate, shame some of that can't run of on UK speedway in general.

Yes good Friday was always a well attended event.. So ofcourse the management stopped doing it because this is British Speedway remember.

The management didn’t have a choice. Friday isn’t a designated Premiership fixture day. If Ipswich were in the Championship I’m sure the Good Friday fixture would return.

The signing of Emil will add the fans that who had fallen out of love with the sport and wouldn't have been there otherwise. Cant see any newbies being attracted because of him. However the buzz from the signing could inject some much needed feel good factor. Crowds of 3000 are attainable imo week in week out with a winning team.

Depends... If Emil's signing means that Ipswich are very successful and make it into the playoff finals, then new people from the area may attend, there's always those fans in sports that only turn up if a local sports club of any kind are successful... And once they're crap again they stop coming

Also are the rumours of the returning 16 lapper event true? I hope so, sounds like a brilliant meeting but never got to see it for myself :(
