I can’t put my hand on the 2017 regs when the Tai ringer rule was first applied. I’d imagine they’d be similar to the 2018 regs that forbade any changes for fixtures after 15/08/2018. The play offs started over four weeks after this date on 17/09/2018. The initial Tai ringer rule was in connection with his signing in 2016 just three weeks before the play offs when they knew he couldn’t gain a new average and therefore be eligible to do it all over again the following year. Thankfully the powers that be saw sense and put a stop to such things. It’s crazy that in the intervening years the window between allowable team changes and play offs has shrunk making the Tai ringer rule almost redundant.

If I remember rightly it was no changes before 25% or after 75% of league meetings completed, which is roughly when Tai came in the previous year so not really a ringer rule, more of a benchmark.

By the way, Tai’s 1st home meeting in 2016 was 22nd August, playoff semi 1st leg 21st September, maths not your strong point or making it up to suit your agenda.

You don’t remember rightly as the 25/75 percent rule wasn’t around at the time and was introduced in 2020.

Whilst you’re correct that the first play off meeting was 21/09/16, you’re forgetting that the cut off date for where we move from qualification period to play off period was a week before. The last meeting of the qualifying period was 16/09/16 (https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/speedway/14748998.chequered-flag-report-lakeside-hammers-58-swindon-robins-35/ ) Wolverhampton’s last qualifying meeting was 12/09/16 just three weeks after Tai’s first meeting back. I suppose I could have said Tai was signed three weeks before the play off qualification period ended but I didn’t think I needed to as I thought the term play offs covered this.

Following his 2016 debut with the Wolves, Tai rode at Monmore on 2 further nights before their final qualifying meeting.

Does anyone really care who rides for who and when.

It seems some do! Personally i think coming in to a team after the play offs have started should not happen but changing your team during the season is fine and I dont see why there should be any restrictions on that as long as its within the averages.

If the rumour on the Leicester page comes to fruition (Robert Lambert in for Richard Lawson) that strengthens that team up.  Hopefully the Sheffield promotion are on the look out to strengthen our third heat leader position as it’s becoming more and more obvious that Adam Ellis’ form is continuing to drop, since start of 2022 season a 1.92 point drop in his average

Too late now, or a gamble on a foreign rider and hope it pays off like Peterborough, looks like when we stuck with Batchelor all season when he should have gone

Explain this then, as i said making it up as you go along. Anyway juat because his 1st meeting was on 21st August he was signed the week previously, around 17th August I would imagine, a day before your 2018 example and the 2016 playoffs started 4 days later than 2018 so could actually have signed 5 days later if the 2018 rules applied in 2016. Strange logic and arguments you have, or just hoping no one will notice. Hard luck on that old chap.

Interesting interview with Tai on radio Sheffield. Hints that he may have the chance to stay for the rest of the season even when Holder comes back from his injury. Would he even fit in?

Would have to drop Ellis and one of Howarth or Kerr, that would give us somewhere around 4 to 4.5 for another rider

not sure if that would make us stronger, probably would depending on who we can sign on a 4.5 average

Cant see Sheffield dropping Howarth, Ellis average is so low now, cant see him being dropped, Kerr is a bit up and down at the moment so maybe could be him

Kerr only broke his collarbone 4 weeks ago and now he’s back at reserve could be valuable as he was last time in that position. Last one to be dropped for me. Forms a good relationship on track with Tai too.

That's why Ellis needs dropping, and then you need to drop one of Howarth or Kerr as well

That should give us Tai and a 4.5 pointer, just don't know who that could be, so probably a non starter,

Woofinden and Kye Thomson/Jye Etheridge maybe for Ellis and Kerr

Etheridge would be good value at the NSS if its indeed a Sheffield vs Belle Vue play off final

Or haps try and tempt Dimitri Berge back to slot in for Kerr or Howarth depending on his current average.

Play offs should have injury replacement allowed if guests are allowed all season..

If no guest facility is allowed in the UK, and a fit for purpose RR facility was in play instead, then no replacement should be allowed in the playoffs even for an injury...

Fans really cannot spend a season accepting dozens of  meetings with guest riders, then suddenly complain when riders get replaced in the play offs due to bona fide injuries..

Really can't believe some people, yes would be good to see tai stay for rest of the season but honestly? Come on,is he going to be here next season? Kyle has been a loyal servant to Sheffield and a damn good captain too so no,I like Lewis but would rather see Kyle stay.

if  guests have been used in the season for an injured rider then they should be used in the play offs.Replacements should not be allowed during the play offs, any replacements should only be allowed prior to the play offs.

Unattached riders coming in, at a lower average than the rider they are replacing, has credibility..

Using riders from oher teams, with a good chance that they have an even higher average than the rider they are replacing, and could also be considerably better at a particular track, has zero credibility...

Using a guest rider in the first leg and getting a replacement for the second leg is not credible.
