Sadly this company will be banking on the profits from selling to a housing company and we will be into the same kind of long winded battle that Coventry are in. But if the council took over ownership of the site, then maybe they could lease it out to a speedway promoter, if the price was right Yes of course, and as with Molineux with the Gallagher brothers putting in the money,so the same with Monmore it will also needs private investment rather than tax payers left with the burden. dave1075
Unfortunately in the current financial climate, multi million pound companies like Entain & ARC ( both major betting companies) who are owned by Lord & Lady ????? or Ex Politicians who just want to make money and are not interested in running speedway in these venues & couldn’t care less what normal members of the public want. They buy these stadiums & sell them to property developers for housing, they then use this income to invest in other ventures they own with other members of the Heirarchy by making them into large sporting complexes with hotels on site. They incorporate greyhound racing as this brings in a large percentage of revenue via SIS to all betting shops for BAG’s & BEG’s meetings. I can’t see any councils having anywhere near enough excess money to buy the stadiums in question from the property developers, unless their is some sort of multi -millionaire with a interest in speedway who can persuade them to sell to him/her & hopefully stay involved & not get dragged onto the dark side by these greedy parasites who say “bugger you I’m alright Jack” I’ve got LOADSAMONEY. HGould
No chance of Speedway at Dunstall Park Horse Racing Track. It's surrounded on 2 sides by Housing and you drive through housing estate to get in. South Staffs would include areas between Wombourne, Penn and Finchfield along the road out it Bridgnorth, too rural I'd suggest and inaccessible for anyone without a car One area that might work is the A5 between Gailey and Cannock where A5 Trucks top is. Lots of land round there some brownfield but not that accessible for many. Lots of old industrial sites and brownfield sites between Monmore and Birmingham New Road on Monmore side of town but that's likely been considered and ditched. Really left field is Wolverhampton City Airport formerly Halfpenny Green old RAF base that did stage big Grass Track Meeting in early 1980 period, very inaccessible again for many. Plans are now emerging to build a greyhound track at Dunstall Park which would almost certainly lead to the Monmore Green site being redeveloped for housing. The joint venture covers Media Rights rather than the Stadium Project. The Dunstall Park Venture is to take the Perry Barr Greyhounds there, closing Perry Barr altogether to build on there. Entain would keep Monmore under their ownership. There would be 2 Greyhound Stadia in Wolverhampton owned by 2 different companies with no speedway at Monmore Green and Birmingham Speedway closing as well. Neither Company is too bothered about attendances at Greyhound meetings as they get the majority of their income from streaming the races. They were instrumental in saving Molineux when the Bhatti brothers were planning other ideas. I also heard that a site was being looked at in South Staffs, closer to the M6. But there were problems with that venue being too close to a motorway junction. Pie in the sky. Absolutely no chance of any new speedway tracks being built in the UK in the current climate. Its over. ouch
I’d do everything in my power to help Wolverhampton get a new track. That’s been the case since the mid 90’s
foreverblue
I know there are some who dont like the Wolves track but i always found it a good entertaining away track to visit when Poole were in the same league. I think to lose any club is awful but to lose such a club that has been at the top for so long would be devastating for speedway. DJWolves
People saying that the greyhound track at Dunstall Park will replace Perry Barr. No way will there be two greyhound tracks in Wolverhampton. The new track will replace Perry Barr and Monmore. That leaves Monmore Green vacant when the speedway closes and ripe for housing. Be nice to think when the dogs leave that speedway could take over Monmore, but no way would that stadium be financially viable if it’s just used for speedway 20+ times a year. I wondered if a track and stadium could be created in East Park. Build it around the cycle speedway track that’s already there, and if the council are really keen to keep speedway in the town they could help develop a multi sport venue there, maybe with a leisure centre. Apparently it's also emerged on Facebook that the fruit and veg wholesale market next door to Monmore will be turned into appartments. That's not a good sign .
