The point Butterfield missed (either intentionally, ignorantly or both?) is that following a professional sport team is tribal in nature. In this case, it is like saying that if Old Trafford closed, Man U fans could travel to Anfield and watch Liverpool matches - it's football after all isn't it? - wouldn't happen in that case any more than saying Peterborough and Kings Lynn are "in reasonable proximity"  LP30 is about providing a facility within reasonable distance of Peterborough for the Panthers FANS to watch their team race for honour and league points rather than travel the better part of another hour  just to see independent riders racing one another purely for a few quid.

It was /is certainly ignorance. In terms of product though, at least historically Man U & Liverpool are of the same standing although the Anfield mob are currently in the ascendency and have been for a few years now.. I prefer the Man U to Burnley analogy. Yes it's football but not in anyway of equal worth. Anyone who thinks that the product provided by the unique facility at the EoES can be matched by the Norfolk Arena is ill-informed and delusional, and he clearly is!

Also strange that an alleged green council, keen on reducing car usage and improving the fitness and wellbeing of people wants them to hit the roads for polluting car journeys. If they buy the AEPG guff that is?

Peterborough Panthers return to Alwalton....for one night only

Peterborough Panthers are on their way back to their spiritual home at Alwalton.

And fans, starved of seeing their speedway team in live action, have the chance to relive one of the biggest trophy celebrations in the club’s long history. A specially edited film of the famous ‘Dad’s Army’ team being crowned top-flight league champions after their two-leg Grand Final victory against Belle Vue in 2021 will be premiered at a special ‘Speedway Returns to Alwalton’ night later this month. It’s a great opportunity for Panthers fans to meet up again and also hopefully there will be members of the consortium fighting to keep the sport alive in Peterborough present who will possibly be able to update everyone on what has been happening and what is planned for the future.”

The team has been booted off their East of England Arena base as developers planned for a multi-use leisure village and 1,500 homes (only up to 650 of which are agreed in the Peterborough Local Plan), but included no provision for Speedway. There will not be Peterborough team racing competitively in 2024. (And there will be no planning agreement or building either!)

The ‘Dad’s Army’ event has been organised by Panthers Speedway Supporters’ Club in their effort to keep fans involved and fully up to date about what they are doing? What better way of complementing that than looking back at that stunning 2021 season?

The Panthers team of Ulrich Ostergaard, Chris Harris, Scott Nicholls, Bjarne Pedersen, Hans Andersen, Michael Palm Toft and Jordan Palin began the season as rank outsiders for the title. They were dubbed ‘Dad’s Army’ because of the average age of the squad.

Peterborough Panthers are still the only professional Peterborough sports team to win the league at the highest level.

The event is at the Colonel Dane Memorial Hall in Church Street, Alwalton – a mile or so from speedway’s home for more than 50 years – at 7.30pm on Friday, May 31.Tickets (£3 for members, £4 for non-members and under 15s free) are by e-mail from ppssc2016@yahoo.com.

Any truth in the rumour that for a truly authentic feel of 2021, social distancing will be in operation and the still ineffective face masks will be on sale at the door :)

Just as well we aren't running under Buster's ownership this year.

I dread to think what would've happened considering the current state KL are in.

None. See you there?

Unless you can restore my dog from his ashes and recreate those barmy summer nights at Ferry Meadows (with the sound of the bikes a short distance away) then sadly I have nothing to relive. I never attended a meeting in 2021.

Well he put you before Lynn, last season... He signed you a few good riders, after CJ bailed, and left you in the crap....Giving you a good end to the season, putting he's " Beloved Lynn" in the wooden spoon position !!

Something's clearly up with Buster this year, He's just refusing to run meetings and if it's down to finances then he wouldn't have been able to keep either club on track imo.

My conspiracy theory is that Brady took him to court and won to a point where Buster's on the brink financially.

After all Brady did hold that sign up at the Darts.

I would have thought it isn’t the court case but possibly he spent his budget on getting a proper number one and the rest of the team isn’t performing which is partly down to lack of meetings which is partly bluster’s fault.
it’s more difficult to get guests as sometimes only one other team isn’t riding on the same night.
add the problem of him falling out with several other riders and not being prepared to pay the going rate for heat leaders. All this makes thinks more difficult.
his stubbornness is costing him dearly.

He thought he had as good as sold PB, and Lynn's promotion at the start of last season, and that didn't happen. He had to step in at both clubs last season to keep them running. He continued with Lynn this season, when he wanted to be off enjoying his retirement fund with Cheryl. Not digging into it to run speedway.

Taken from another thread....

"My mate went to stock cars at Lynn yesterday and apparently Buster announced that there won't be speedway at Lynn after this season"

He's only got himself to blame.

His yearly strop.

And your hourly dig at him, you've made your point every day for the last 6 - 12 months don't you think it's time to give the rest of us a break?

CJ bailed and left us in the crap? Not sure about that?

Who signed and paid for them is open to question I'd say? Chapman would have done a cost/benefit analysis for his input. He would know that Panthers already healthy support would be boosted by sensible investment. Would the same investment have reaped the same reward at Lynn?

Just caught up with what Butterfield has recently said.....what an absolute piece of work he is.

Yup. It's getting a bit nasty now and he's misjudged a situation that he could have handled so much better and negotiated an amicable split, but he's just a bully who thinks that what he says goes without question. It only takes half a dozen people (some local which he isn't) with strong views and local knowledge to cause problems and delay for AEPG and get something significant for Peterborough Speedway from the mess that Butterfield and Co have created.

Nope.

British Speedway is trying to raise it's profile again and Buster is trying to ruin it for everyone.

I'll stop when he stays true to his word and that's by taking a walk for good.

I'm intrigued as to where this person claims this 'announcement' was made. Buster's only involvement with stock car meetings is renting the track to the promotion, and running his burger stall. He certainly doesn't get anywhere near a mic to make any announcements, so my guess would be that someone had a dig at him while buying a burger and he gave a sarcastic response.
