Peterborough Panthers 2023

That council leader meeting a couple of pages ago had me thinking.  Clearly the leader does not understand how the local plan should work.  He talks about not spending public money to help the speedway.  The public money spent on producing the plan was obviously spent.  It is now time we should be getting some of that value for our spent money.  The Local Plan should be used to ensure that developers develop in line with the overall city planning objectives, not just the developers pockets.  The council are responsible for accepting or rejecting plans that  do not comply with the local plan.  The excuses that no members of any Western Home Counties golf clubs ever discuss the last night's meeting at Belle Vue or Foxhall will not wash round here.

AEPG are FULLY  responsible for producing plans that provide for compulsory elements of local plan in the plans they submit to the council planning department.

Under the National Authority of Local Councils Guidance, the council can provide intermediary assistance between developers and existing property owners but the requirement to plan and pay for the re-provision of a speedway stadium in the EoS if they are not going to leave it where it is falls entirely to AEPG.  If they do not, the council must show them the door

The actions to insist in speedway at EoE ending this season and using that to claim non-viability are contrary to planning law and can be used to insist that these two combined applications must be rejected out of hand.  AEPG, as current owners of the showground, would be fully responsible if there is any criminal damage to the speedway facilities and it is found that they either collude with the those potentially  doing damage or order it themselves. (shades of the wonky pub and Brandon Stadium in Coventry.- same rules)

I'm sure that they have tried to get out of those elements by submitting to PCC a prepared document which looks at the  loss of Peterborough Speedway in the context of Local Plan Policy. I don't believe that document is in the public domain and I've hit a blank trying to get a copy of it. I know the basics and their arguments are pretty weak and have generally been negated by many many excellent objections. AEPG do hold the cards though and unless someone from the club (who will that be because Chapman is demob-happy and allegedly there is nobody else?) calls AEPG's bluff and goes public then they will stick with the non-viable excuse at an unused EoES and it may just stick. PCC will look for a get out and no 2024 would do it IMO.

What is Peterborough Speedway?  We are not talking limited one-man band companies here, so presumably if someone gets BSP approval to run a season branded as "Peterborough Speedway" it would still technically exist and no amount of documents could prove otherwise.  But does such a someone(s) with the necessary cash actually exist?  It is not beyond the possibility that PCC could reject the current planning bid because it has more holes in it than a  Swiss cheese and nobody wants to run the speedway racing while PCC sort out the mess that have got themselves into.

I am suspicious old sod, but why does the last meeting publicity say "Farewell to the Showground" and not mention what or who is saying farewell to what from the showground.  Is it a farewell to the showground for Buster but not speedway?  The publicity also points to making contact direct to Buster's mobile if you want to sponsor anything at the meeting?

I get the feeling we may have been peeing against the wind for the past month ore so in expecting anything positive to happen.  I do hope not, but the next few weeks will be pivotal.

I don’t blame you… it’s playing on diehards emotions basically.. and offering up, not a lot.

Amen to that.

The first part is spot on in my book. I'm certainly not playing that game. I was done for 2023 when Chapman read the AEPG script over the PA. The local paper and AEPG will love the farewell to speedway at the EoES edition and those not involved in the fight will just buy it as the opposition ebbs away

If we carry on kicking and screaming a bit without anyone significant happening, being that an MP, PCC decision maker or these alleged people who want to take the club forward breaking ranks then I'll not be holding my breath for the future.

I keep seeing that people are working hard behind the scenes, well I know one, so let's hope that they keep the pressure up for those next few pivotal weeks.

Bratters is the expert regarding the world of shark infested custard. If there's a way then he would know. If AEPG don't want to negotiate though then what do you do? Go direct to the East of England Agricultural Society, keeping PCC updated as well could be a useful strategy. I'm sure that they don't want to be brought in to this and dragged down with their current promoter, AEPG who currently occupy and operate the site under a lease. The EEAS certainly didn't swallow AEPG's alleged exciting plans and fantasy planning applications to get negative press and a 1000+, thus far, objections.

You’ve got to be kidding surely? Led one of the most unfancied teams who were tipped to be nearer the bottom than the top, to the title whilst turning back the clock with a vintage season. He more than deserves his place on that list.

Seems very unfair on Buster to expect him to foot the bill for restructuring the Peterborough team (Harris, Tarasenko and Laguta) while denying the opportunity to recoup those costs.

Seems some people only want promoters to run loss making meetings, a guaranteed recipe for the sport's demise.

I hope that next Saturday is:

1) profitable for Buster

2) a suitably fitting emotional event befitting the ocassion; and

3) not the last we see of speedway in Peterborough

As horrific as the line-up looks, what else is there to be expected?

It shows the dumbing down of the league over the last decade.

No top rider's in the SGP & Ekstraliga have any relevance to Peterborough Speedway.

Are we expecting Crump, Sullivan to don the kevlars again & just ride around at the back waving??

After consideration I won't be going even if it's a good line-up.

I just can't bring myself to line Buster's pockets one last time after the way he's treated us, I just don't like the bloke.

Whether we come to tapes next year or not, I have faith that this won't be the last time we see Panthers on track because we've got a team fighting for us behind the scenes and that team consists of a a group of people who actually love the club unlike Buster.

It's a shame the admission money is not going  towards the BEN Fund.Im sure people wouldn't object to that !
