No excuse

Has BassoRacingFan deleted the comment?

There was a two minute silence, the National Anthem was played, and Kevin Long gave (by all accounts) an excellent tribute.

British Speedway literally cannot afford to postpone* matches - especially at this stage of the season. The show must go on ... HM was fulfilling her duties just three days before she passed away. RIP.

*As any fool knows, "cancel" means that a match is not restaged.

I spoke to someone who knows him, and they told me he don't even like to talk speedway. Don't seem interested.

Like a lot of people on the planet he doesn't talk work outside of work. I find it quite human rather than not interested.

Before the season the belle vue crowd on here were up in arms about how we signed him and allegedly did them dirty after a verbal agreement… wonder if they want to swap him for matej zagar for the playoffs or have they gotten over it?? Haha

the frustration with Troy is that he’s not a bad rider, clearly talented and at times this season we’ve seen just how good he can be, but others like this evening he’s looked like he can’t even turn the bike

I don’t get that impression when he’s racing this season to be fair. I’d like to think I can spot a rider not bothering and I’ve seen a few over the years. He just doesn’t look particularly quick and has to go in to defensive mode when he’s made the gate to stay in front. And to his credit he’s pretty clever in the way he does that at times.

It's like he flips a coin before a meeting,,, heads I'm going to be good,, tails I'm gonna have a shocker

Troy's had a lot of problems with engines this year and has spent a lot of money trying to get them right for him. He'll be the first to admit that when he gets the right engines performing he's as good as they come, but when they are not doing what he needs them to do he struggles. Every rider has their plusses and minuses, when he's good he's very good, when he's bad, he's bad. The perception is that he doesn't care. That's wrong, but I understand why people think it. I've known many riders over the years who can make themselves look "all action" and trying really hard, when in reality they are not. Troy isn't one of them. If he's struggling for performance you'll see it, if he's flying, you'll know it. He's not everyone's cup of tea, I think he's been good value this year on a 5.5 despite his problems. I totally get the frustration because he can be world class on his day, so why can't he be like that every day? If he knew how to be like that do you really think he wouldn't do it?

But the history behind that state is that when League Cup fixtures were included in riders averages there were several high profile examples of average rigging to allow team changes that gave some teams what was perceived to be an unfair advantage.

You can argue for inclusion ,or against, but it has to be accepted that neither will give ideal outcomes 100% of the time.

Average rigging has gone on since the sport started, the only real argument is to make all official matches count towards GSA, league, all cups and play offs etc, the more matches that count the less an average can be manipulated.

Thats why it’s interesting that the BSPL have this year decided to reduce the amount that matches that count towards an average. No explanation has been provided for this so everyone can draw their own conclusions as to why it’s been done.

As good as they come?...don't think so..he gives up when he's last.

Must have a bad year with engines at Sheffield last year as well then

I think he just didn't take the the track actually on that point.

Yes there is a frustration watching him as you never quite know in advance what you might get, I've seen him get 12 and 13+ this season, and when he does that the Witches tend to win big, and then get a 4 - then to be fair Danny has had  a few meetings like that too

However his 'proper' average as I like to call it has been about 7 this season so he been a worthwhile addition for the Witches.

He definitely wasn't interested last night, free wheeling into every turn apart from the first lap of his first ride.

Confirmed in Panthers report of the match:

"However, Basso has been struggling with a shoulder injury in recent weeks and further wrenched it during the meeting, meaning that having ridden in Heats 13 and 14, he did not feel physically able to contest Heat 15."

There we go. The simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

Batchelor is an embarrassment to speedway, no idea why he does it, I can’t see what he can get out of it, he clearly doesn’t enjoy it.

Maybe he is on a very nice downside agreement regardless of what points he scores.

As someone who has seen him ride for Ipswich I think generally his commitment has been excellent.
he was signed as a 5 point rider and is now riding in the tough number 5 position. He has had some fantastic 5-1 wins with Doyley

yes he relies on his gating but he can pass when in the mood. He needs to feel valued and he is at Ipswich as he was at Swindon.

I think that's why he confounds and annoys a lot of fans.
