This may not make me particularly popular but the saying "play the ball not the man" comes to mind.

Granted, no Team I have supported or particularly followed has been blighted by Clarke Osbourne.

However, as a Brummies fan about to lose PB who has also over the decades watched a lot of Speedway at Monmore, Cradley, Coventry and Stoke to name but a few, I have to say that IF any of those Clubs (or others like Lakeside as an example) came up with what is actually IN those proposals, I'd be very very excited.

The location ticks many boxes, the shared sporting use and business use ticks many boxes, it offers hope, which supporters of many closed Tracks don't have.

The bottom line is that if CO was not linked to this then what would the reaction be.

Hope springs eternal!

Of course the reaction would have been positive if CO was not involved but on the other hand it offers no hope if he is involved ..its not hard to follow plus most of the fans don't want them to make them let them stupid again. Then of course supported this also helps him knock the Abbey down what of course is the end game No one wants to be part of that

If a reputable builder offered to lay your patio, you might be excited.   If it was Fred West, you'd perhaps be a little more worried.

You made  me chuckle anyway. 🤣

Russell was involved with Osbourne  on  the Reading project..They both said today it never went ahead because Gordon Brown had changed the law on casinos

I don't understand what the heck Casinos have/had to do with Speedway?

Or am I missing something?

Reading's supposed new stadium was touted as being a "racino" - a speedway track and casino combined.

Not the case. As this report shows the casino operators were tired of CO prevarication and simply found another site.

Yes.  More lies from Osborne.

He was never serious about "Reading Racino" it was just a distraction to allow him to demolish Reading Speedway.   Grosvenor Casinos realised he wasn't serious and went ahead and built their casino in a different part of Reading.

If I recall correctly the Gordon Brown thing was about relaxing gambling laws to allow a massive "Super Casino" to be built in either Blackpool or Manchester.   When the bid was won by Manchester rather than Blackpool, things cooled off, and Brown decided there were better things to build rather than SuperCasinos.

Brown's decision had no effect on Grosvenor Casinos opening a casino in Reading.   Neither the pie in the sky Speedway track/Casino, nor the actual Casino that they did build in Reading, and which I believe is still there.

Please avoid Osbourne being referred to by initials.  There was only one CO, Mr Charles Ochiltree.  I thank you!  🐝

Anyhow the make believe story is  that if the made up Stadium gets up and running there will be no floodlights and it will be ran at Nl level on Saturday afternoons.

If you wanted to run Swindon in the NDL, and you owned a perfectly functional, equipped stadium, like the Abbey Stadium, why would you not already be running it there?

Would you really invest in building a new stadium just to run at the amateur level?  That's not going to give a satisfactory return on investment.

Well quite .. Another story Russell talks  about is  that he left the abbey  because of the cost and only being able to use the stadium once a week .

But now he going to new stadium that he's going to use one a week and with little cost .. none of this adds up and that includes the  past accounts that look like they been manipulated to show a loss

Thanks for that. I've downloaded and will take a look.

One of the most obvious initial questions (assuming we accept in the first place that it a genuine proposal - which I have doubts about) is where are people going to park? Only 200 spaces in what looks a fairly rural location. Hopefully that is all in hand

Yes 200 spaces no where near enough, where does everyone park if it was a sell out? say on average 2 people per car, you would need 1500 car spaces.

So if they joined the NDT they'd have 5 matches  (Birmingham, Leicester, Kent, King's Lynn and Plymouth).   They could conceivably invite Belle Vue, Edinburgh, Oxford, Middlesbrough and Scunfield for a challenge.

So 5 matches, maybe expandable to 10 matches.....  but he wants to run more than once a week?

They don't even make their bullsh1t logical.

I completely agree, 200 car park spaces for (depending upon which part of the site you read) 3,000/5,000 spectators.  Unless they are to park on the kart track or (looking at google maps) at the garden centre at the end of the road!

Also, the road looks extremely narrow and surely would have to be widened (perhaps someone who knows the area would be able to shed some light onto whether this is the case or not).

Call me cynical, but as hopeful as I am, things just don’t seem to add up.
