It could be worth speculating that GI have borrowed money to fund a new stadium "somewhere" which would be positive news. However, on the downside should they fail to find (or look for?) such a place and then be able to refinance that particular project then L&G would take over The Abby stadium, leaving GI with their hands washed of the current stadium and a wad of cash. One further consideration (for now) The value of the Abbey would be significantly different if housing could not be built on it so one wonders if, by engineering a circumstance where another stadium was built "somewhere" would that in turn mean that the council/planning/etc altered their views on the future of the Abbey as a place zoned for leisure use. Anyone worth their salt would refuse to attend and line that b****** Osborne's pockets and it would be a matter of time before he would be looking to put houses on the new land. Surely the Council's view about retaining the stadium site for Leisure etc, might only change if any alternative site was found within the Swindon Council boundaries. The Requirement for Change Further to discussions with officers over the past 9 months, the stadium has now permanently ceased the operation of motorsport, and later this year will cease all its operations. As such, a variation to the s106 agreement is necessary to take account of a different approach to the delivery of the final element of the regeneration of the area. Whilst this will ultimately be delivered by a fresh planning consent on the site, until then, it is necessary for the clauses associated with the current consent to reflect the reality of the position with regards to implementation. Variations agreement: This Deed of Variation request, therefore, seeks to make the following amendments to the above mentioned s106 Insertion of updated Milestone Programme and Milestone Plans. Deletion of the ultimate longstop (12 months from the date of the New Stadium Permission). Deletion of the speedway and greyhound racing covenant. The parties subject to the new agreement will be amended to reflect the relevant updated land ownership position. The above amendments are considered acceptable as they relate to the construction of the stadium, which has now permanently ceased. As such, the variations are critical to progress with an alternative proposal to deliver the final element of the regeneration of the site, which will deliver significant and lasting benefits to the local area. Toady Posted June 18 Report Share Posted June 18 (edited) This doc was submitted to the council this week it is saying that greyhound racing will finish at the stadium this year so they want to change the 106 agreement As all operations will cease at the stadium later this year Osborne would like the council to reflect this and let him walk away easily.
