Swindon Stadium

Odds On

Recommended Posts

There is a track already, which is currently having a brand new stadium being built, actually n Swindon itself..

Maybe someone could run Speedway there?

It has been ran in Swindon, quite successfully, for a good many decades...

Has anyone told Terry about this site as it sounds perfect...

Or, if he does know about it, and doesnt want to use it, maybe someone else would like to open up Speedway there?

The Swindon Robins could be a name to consider for the team...

Not if it's in Cheltnham I won't. I will if it's in Theale though.

If it was Theale you could give the team a name appropriate to its location and cultural identity, such as ... Reading Racers

Exactly. I made that point earlier when I said Theale is pretty much Tilehurst.

That is why the "within 45 minutes of Swindon" thing is so bizarre.

I really don't know how to feel about that statement. The obvious, first reaction is to ask myself if I trust Clark Osbourne and Terry Russell and the obvious thought is to doubt them.

But, why would they put out a statement like this if it isn't true? Surely they wouldn't build people's hopes up like this just for their own means. Would they? Osbourne might, but would Russell? Surely he, at least, would think about how fans would feel about that.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if anything comes of it. Don't forget, after all, that land was secured for a new Reading stadium too, but it as never built.

If it happens, though, what is this "45 minutes from Swindon" thing all about? I live in Newbury. It used to take 30 minutes to get from there to Blunsdon. And Newbury is hardly Swindon. It's more Reading territory than Swindon. Add another 15 minutes on the motorway and you're at Theale roundabout - which is pretty much Tilehurst.

I will take some positives from this statement being released, but I'm far from convinced yet that anything will come of it. If it does, I hope it's east of Swindon rather than west!

Do you really think Tr worries about what fans think about him ..Loads of reasons why the statement has come out and also the timeing of it.  Personally I would  not take  any notice of this statement it's just more garbage

Swindon fans have had to put up with a lot if hyperbole these last few years from certain people who think that they have their best interests at heart.

They wonder why we don’t believe them, when it’s clear who is pulling the strings.

This information was provided on another thread in September 2022 I think all at Swindon are aware of it by now

Maybe this is finally the stadium Osborne promised for Reading. Two birds with one stone..

Man's a genius

I just hope the BSPL have taken the Robins' licence off ice and removed Russell from any control - but somehow i doubt it!

It's madness that people still believe it!!! I know of a couple of people who think its going to happen now. I would love to know what has happened in the past 10 years that makes them believe anything CO and TR say!!

I think this statement has come out to stop the Bspl taking the licence off Ice and allowing someone else a chance . I think it is a way of saying ‘ keep it on ice, we now have a location sorted  but we just need more time’.

Not that I believe that anything will happen.

Although it would be absolutely fantastic news for a new speedway site to be developed, the concept of announcing "a site has been found" but we are not releasing details of where it is until outline planning as been established smacks of they  haven't actually found a potential site at all, and in due course will be able to say "unfortunately we were unable to gain outline planning permission to build a speedway facility on the site after all - but we remain committed to finding one".

The reason for doing this, not so much to keep the license on ice (its worthless without a place to hold meetings) but to show compliance with the terms of developing the Abbey allowing the continuation of housing to be built.

Whilst its horrible to adopt such a negative, naysayer view regrettably, it is closer to the truth than TR's current diatribe - but lets hope he proves me wrong!

Can't a licence only be kept on ice for 3 years? BSPL need to remove it from Russell immediately. This latest update is purely to take the heat off and keep the BSPL thinking something may happen. If they have anything about them then they'll take it off Russell. They should be doing the same with Buster Chapman at Peterbrough.

The licence isn't worthless at all. You can't run speedway in Swindon without it. Same as Peterborough where Chapman is reluctant to give up the licence even though he has no track

This might be a stupid question but if these people have no intention of finding a site why keep the licence on ice? Surely its worthless sell the promoting rights to someone who actually has an interest in bringing the sport back to Swindon.

I think as has been said it smooths the way for osbourne as he continues on with his plans, if a new promotion came along to soon it may become a bit uncomfortable for him.Don’t forget el tel has already been paid off anyway
