Carl said there wasn't enough tyres to finish the meeting.

That as I understand it is because there is a limit to the number of tyres allocated to each team

First meeting of the season and well didn’t we choose a good one?  All in all the racing was close and we weren’t really aware of any issues up until Scott had his problem in heat 9. Who ever thinks even at this stage of his career that it doesn’t mean as much you should have seen Nicholls reaction storming back into the pits launching his goggles and giving the wall being his pit a mighty wallop. Then in Heat 10 with Basso who I must say was really good all night and then as you will see on sky’s coverage his tyre and inner tube just exploded in bits all over the track.  Then fair play after the interval the promoter had the decency to explain what was going on, was wondering why such a long interval, is it something in the material potentially to do that much damage, they need some testing done on it as it will just happen again the next home meeting?  If it is the tyres then surly they are unsafe for the entire league?

Value for money wise... 2/3 of a meeting seen for full price due to a major issue with either track material or tyre so not really happy but can understand for rider safety why but not good if you have paid £20 for 10 races and a 120 mile round trip. Sums up the panthers season as had these punctures not happened they would have been level at least if not leading.

Simon Stead said safety issues when interviewed on Eurosport but that's fair enough, I stand corrected.

Weren't the Anlas tyres abandoned from being the GP tyre initially because of quality issues?

Expand

No they are the official tyre supplier although riders do have a free choice from homologated list

I thought there were issues with them during their first year and they had to abandon using them

Everyone is missing the point here...how come these tyres have been fine all season up until now?...can only be lack of shale on the track it the material.

Expand

I think there have been problems since day 1. I remember watching a load of riders and officials in the pits at Peterborough either this season or last having long discussions about the tyres.

There may have been problems we just don't know about them?

The track had been relaid since last Thursday and looked in very good condition with plenty of material on it.

If it was a 'lack of shale' then there must have been umpteen other similar surfaces this season so why did the tyres not disintegrate on those?

I know you are desperate to beat your club with every available stick but the logical explanation is that the batch of tyres were particularly crap.

I’m a tad lost over this. Are riders limited to the amount of tyres they can use?. Do the promoters/team managers allocate tyres?. I expected riders would carry spares in their vans.

Expand

Standard procedure is 7 tyres issued to each team prior to the start of the meeting , tyres which are checked by the referee from an official batch from the BSPL stock ( a garage proprietary in Lincolnshire ) and distributed at random to each rider to be fitted at the track.

Riders will have a used tyre on their second bike which can only be used, when checked and authorised, in an emergency situation.

There have been at Peterborough all this season at least.

Peterborough is a track that has historically destroyed tyres.

I don't know any more than that, but I do know that when I was involved in the sport around 30 years ago the Dunlops and Barums of the time used to get absolutely hammered.

I expect it wouldn't take a significant thing to go from hammering tyres to catastrophic failure. Could be incorrect storage of the tyres, a small change in track surface, temperature or more likely a combination of many factors.
