To be fair, it rained last night heavily and has been raining  pretty consistently since about 8.30 this morning. Wasn’t just a passing shower

Yeah. A lot of rain fell. Can’t dispute that. But should be plenty of time to sort track. Even if they delayed the meeting till 8pm.

Most aces fans leave at 6pm. Riders already over here. No need for such an early call off. It just looks like they haven’t even tried

They'll be shoe horning fixtures in to October as usual. This having just run 3 times at home in June/July/Aug.

(This one being the 2nd Off in that time frame) .

British speedway yet again shooting themselves.

My understanding (from track staff posts elsewhere) is that we don’t get access to the track until the dogs finish at around 5.30pm. Simply not enough time to get the track fit for racing.

if they half arse the preparation and the racing is rubbish or a rider gets injured, the promotion get slated. Just look at the fall out from Cardiff and the number of people vowing to never go back.

Fairly sure that the decision won’t have been taken lightly, the income from a local derby would be much appreciated after the number of rain offs etc

The rain falling hasn't been torrential, and the track has drainage, which won't have been overwhelmed due to the very small amount that's fallen in the last few/many weeks. This is just another nail in the coffin of the sport as far as I'm concerned. I'm not that far away from Owlerton, the roads around here are almost if not dry now and I'm sure that they could have got a satisfactory meeting on.

The SCB ought to have a nearby referee come and inspect the track around 7.30pm and give his independent opinion. If he considers the track raceable then award Belle Vue 4 points and fine the Sheffield promotion.

The last Greyhound race at Owlerton today was 13.59. So not sure the 5.30pm stacks up  in this instance

Just going by what the actual track staff are saying, who I presume know what they are talking about given they are the people doing the track prep. The last official race maybe at 13.59, but that does not mean all activities cease at that time or that we get access to the stadium as soon as that race finishes

I can see why you like speedway… always going round in circles!!

Nobody is disputing what time the last official dog race was at… doesn’t change what time the promotion can get access to the stadium according to the people who are actually involved with preparing the track… but what do they know?

Watched a lot of Swedish meetings this summer and they go to extraordinary lengths to make sure the meeting goes ahead. Watched them virtually replace the whole track with new shale so it could go ahead. What do we do, look at the forecast the day before and decide there and then or if it looks like they may have to put some work in then they think that’s too much trouble so cancel is the easy option.  Don’t deserve our support.

For the second week on the trot I'm explaining to the grandkids that the match is rained off... while basking in 20 degree bright sunshine. The lawn outside my house (which is prone to turning to a quagmire after even just a moderate rainfall) is dry and firm. I find it hard to believe that Owlerton (three miles away) is any different. Something is very wrong at Sheffield Speedway. Whether it's the track or the people who run it is a mystery but, for a sport which hopes to attract a new generation of followers, a single meeting in the entire six-week kids' summer holiday is an opportunity wasted. My grandkids have lost interest and I'm starting to feel that way too.

How big is your lawn? We'll hold the meeting there. A few tinnies in the fridge and we're cooking on gas.

Sheffield speedway appears to be no longer fit for purpose

Constant track and stadium issues and never able to deal with the slightest of set backs

Time to pull out of the league and leave it to the clubs that can organise themselves satisfactorily
