Championship League Riders' Championship at Poole

Recommended Posts

Well done Captain courageous!!
Highest average in the league, inspirational skipper for Monarchs and riding with dislocations, fractures and metalwork. Well deserved, for the second time, having won in 2011. He has now won everything the league has to offer in our colours.
Skills and bravery on track, and at home (with another babe on the way)

He will be acclaimed with much warmth when back at Armadale.

Well done to Sam Masters on his win. Never really in doubt once he had proved his fitness at the start of the meeting. The fact that he loves it at Poole just added to the likelihood of him being the winner. Big well done to Danny King on securing second spot and to a deserved Louis Kerr third. Unlucky in Douglas who had to withdraw from the final.

The meeting was played out in front of a good crowd. Perhaps a tad down on last weeks league meeting but still very good. No other club would have got close to the attendance so it’s no surprise it ended up at Poole.  The crowd were appreciative of all the riders and all received warm applause all evening.

I thought the meeting could have been pushed on at a faster pace by ref Christina Turnbull. It was an extra 7 heats so the parade should have been at 7.20 with first heat at 7.30. With track grades every 4 heats and an interval at heat 12 it was always going to finish late. Add to that riders changing their back tyre for the semi, the add on a demolition of the safety fence in the final and it was a long night. Luckily the atmosphere and racing was good enough to keep everyone in the stadium very happy. Not the best meeting at Poole this year but certainly not bad. Of course meetings like this are not the same passion wise as a proper Poole league meeting but that’s how these meetings go.

Masters a worthy winner if it was expected, and a Pirate finishing runner up. Next week is Middlos testimonial. A very good lineup and fingers crossed for decent weather and a big crowd.

Superb from Sam. All the more praiseworthy considering the injuries he is carrying and then being able to recover from the nasty crash in the first running of the final (courtesy of a nudge by Kerr), to win the re-run.

Would get more fans if it was held at the weekend ........ why do the BSPL insist on midweek for our big meetings :(

Track was awful and not good to hold a prestige meeting on a track where you can’t race … 2 passes all night wow!!
I can never understand why Poole fans are so blinkered … as an Ipswich fan we all know Foxhall doesn’t often produce great racing and we admit that … Poole fans just defend the track

On to the meeting and Masters and Douglas showing they are the best two riders in the league especially as Masters has basically won it completely unfit a great effort and let’s hope Douglas is ok as Wolves fans won’t want to see that …

Lets hope that next year it gets moved to a track that can actually provide entertainment to reflect the nature of the event
