At the end of the race, the hare is quickly enclosed with a box and the speed of the hare is regulated so it is always kept

just out of reach of the Greyhounds

Is there someone pedalling it?

Just had a great idea for a TV ad for Frank's carpets.  ;)

The Hare is propelled by a cable running along the outer edge of the track and outside you can hear the

motor whine as it goes round.

One of the track staff has it in their hands and there is an area where the hare is brought to a stop and this

allows them to quickly covered it up.

I have watched a few Greyhound races on Youtube and seen this happen a lot as well as been to one meeting

when we got a pass to attend a Greyhound meeting and put on the odd bet.

I never got into the event and couldn't get over the lack of atmosphere whilst watching the races compared

to a Speedway Meeting.

Kharchenko was probably the best debut performance at Brough Park ever. I was hoping he would defect and join the Diamonds who were a third heatleader short of being any good that year. I think there was a whip round at some point to buy some of the Soviet lads gloves. Must have miffed John Wainwright whose leathers were always taped together. That's how I remember it anyway,

I agree with that sentiment, as he even bettered the first visit of Aussie Dave Shields.

I think the team were given free meals at McDonalds as I have a picture of the team and the staff outside the shop on Northumberland street.

Bit good was David Shields pity he retired so early

Harchenko scored his paid max (14+1) in what was his fourth match of that Tour.  He had scored 9 at Poole, but only managed 2 at Ipswich and 1 at Peterborough.

Vladimir Trofimov was the most consistent for the visitors, after a "tricky" start. with a score of 3 (at Exeter in a 78-18 loss), but followed that up with 12 (at Poole), 11 (at Ipswich), 8 (at Peterborough) and 7 (at Brough). He was also captain.
