I'm not bothered if the meeting takes place or not as I stopped going to meetings a while ago due to my

age (76), what I was querying was could Redcar run this meeting as Newcastle is now closed

Can I mention that the Tyne Tees Trophy was run over two legs and as Newcastle do not have a Track, Promoter or any Riders registered

in their name who will pay anybody for riding under the Newcastle name for this meeting, I wonder if Redcar will be glad to pay the extra

money hoping that a good crowd attends from Newcastle.

I'm sure that the the BSPA will not sanction a team put out in the name of Newcastle since they stopped many teams from using a former

clubs name from riding at another track, Cradley Heath springs to mind.

Quite a query that! ;)

Steve, I waited a while to see if this meeting could take place and when I saw nothing posted, I wondered if it would be allowed and hence my query..

It wil be interesting to see what team is selected in Newcastle's name and what the result turns out to be, unfortunately I have my idea about both

but will keep my comments to myself.

The result is immaterial, as long as all riders are safe at the end of the meeting and those who attend enjoy the evening.

I'm guessing that it will be hoped that most (if not all) of the seven riders will be ex-Diamonds.

Also to answer one of your queries from an earlier post of yours, I know funds are being raised to help towards the costs of the Select side.

For a Newcastle fan, you seem very negative. I would expect most fans would be happy that they can support their team again, even if it is a friendly fixture. It's still a chance to meet up with old friends.

Evening ScampiSpeedway, I don't normally comment on here but thought it was worth clearing this one up. The meeting will definitely go ahead, all the necessary clearances and checks were carried out long before the match was announced. Seven former Diamonds with a combined average just under this years points limit, hopefully this will give the Bears a strong challenge leading into the season and be an exciting team for the Geordie fans to cheer on.

There's two reasons for us not giving this much hype yet, first is we don't want to in anyway overshadow Robbo's meeting the week before. Second is it is far too early, any hype created now wouldn't be sustained.

As for financing the meeting, we have six outstanding sponsors from Newcastle making this happen and we can't thank them enough.

Hope that clears it up and hope to see you there

JSwales, thanks for your reply but as I said earlier my days of going to Speedway have long since

stopped as now even being outside for a few hours causes me to feel the cold very much.

I was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic back in 2002 and apart from the Metformin I take 2 times a day

I take a tablet to keep my low Chloresterstol even lower and other another one to lower my Blood

Pressure so that I will not have either a Stroke or a Heart Attack.

As it is easy for me to see how Newcastle are doing on-line, I unfortunately will not spend any more

money on the sport than Ihave already done over the years.

BAGS meeting.  Hardly anyone turns up to watch for a BAGS meeting.   Spectators normally attend evening fixtures.

No, just me and the young-un, bet they thought they had customers, lol!!!

Anyway, he's been to see the 'dog-racers' now, so that's off the list. :t:

BAGS, Bookies Afternoon Greyhound Service, meetings are beamed to bookie shops. They are paid for by the bookies and don't depend on "on track" punters.

Some sad News for Diamonds fans who knew George Lawson as he passed away suddenly earlier this week and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

George was an ardent speedway fan and done all his courting at Brough Park with his sweetheart and best pal Mary who later become his wife and they attended the speedway together with their children and grandchildren and George would travel to watch many a speedway meeting along with his son Doug and his Grandkids Kyle and Emily.

He especially enjoyed his trips to the more local clubs such as Glasgow; Edinburgh Workington; Berwick and Redcar and would rarely miss watching the Diamonds but would also regularly travel further afield for individuals such as the Premier League (Championship) Riders Final especially when it was held at Sheffield. However during his travels George got to every track in the country following the Newcastle Diamonds. He regularly came to Brough on his motor bike and I will certainly miss my hens eggs that he would bring...

RIP George

Sadly missed John...

They won't sanction a "homeless"  team taking part in a league competition. A one-off challenge match as a select team is fine.

Birmingham had challenges against a Cradley Select and a Coventry select (which they have again as the Brummies opening meeting on Weds April 12th this year)
