John Davis guesting for himself? I'm too young to remember that, how did that happen?

Start of 1975. Davis had been allocated to Reading, and Oxford had AN Other in their line up as putative replacement for Davis, for whom they could use a guest - and they chose Davis!

Not too dissimilar to the Anders Rowe situation for Ipswich recently

Eligible to guest due to being in the declared Ipswich line up although not currently being selected!

It was while the whole Ole Olsen saga was being sorted out who was initially allocated to Oxford but who turned the move down (thank goodness!) and we eventually got the sublime Dag Lovaas and a swap was initiated with Reading Lovaas for Davis (not sure if any money was involved?).

There was also the occasion when team used R/R although the rider was in the starting line up and took part in the meeting? Have a feeling that it was Bob Valentine when he rode for Birmingham?

7. James Pearson: Birmingham! Woo Hoo! an actual Birmingham rider!

... I'm going for a lie down :drink:

If he'd have been good enough to break into the team, you could have had "& Belle Vue" for James Pearson too.

Thank gawd that Brummies v Coventry was not an official fixture. 6 guests vs 7 guests. And yet there were still enough fans defending the format, all so that they could once again wear their yellow & black bobble hats & scarves with pride.
