British final

Take Bewley off the top and Flint/Brennan off the bottom and frankly and not being disrespectful its a DIRE situation when you look at the ages, profile of the bulk of the field.

Whilst Lambert and Bewley have flown the nest and we wait for the likes of Flint, Brennan, Kemp, Palin, Thompsons, Edwards etc to find their feet and ultimate level (and as the years go by what will that level be?) its boringly average by Global standards.

What we really need is a European outlet for the Palins , Brennans , Edwards , Kemps but with Sweden in equally sorry state as us and Denmark not really fitting due to Wednesday racing it's a tough transition even to the bottom (3rd tier) in Poland, where our best younger riders get to feed off the scraps and tough to make a foothold.

So who is the next rising 30 or even 40 year old to take a Crown that used to be the domain of genuinely world class riders?

Same could be said for Australia Sweden and Denmark's current situation..

None have too many outstanding youngsters coming through to usurp the old guard..

Some of the UK lads are getting exposure in the Polish U24 league which will help them hugely given how much  importance and investment the Poles have given it..

The British Final should be a good meeting with many of the riders being of a similar level...

Not a "top class" level granted, but a decent one...

I don't have any problem with that line-up at all. Should be a very competitive meeting throughout as a British Final.

The only problem is that Bewley apart, (because he's already a GP rider) the Cardiff Wildcard is gonna be extremely embarrassed.

Controversial opinion, I'd rather the Wildcard for Cardiff was a foreigner.

Only if other countries did the same. If Poland can have 3 x Polish wildcards, only fair for GB to get one.

It's happened before. Darcy Ward was Wildcard in a Polish round wasn't he?

Indeed, it makes more sense for riders without a home GP round (Australia, USA) to get wildcards in countries with more than one round like Poland, than GB who only have one round.

Shame it isnt on a Friday or Saturday night..

3000 crowd I would think guaranteed on either of those nights, regardless of live TV...

Must be a Friday when all the Polish lads are available, one where Dan rides on the Sunday?

Haven't done a British Final  for years. Do they still have the nerve to put the admission price up and stuff two quid on the proggy for four extra pages?

The price for the tickets is competitively priced family tickets £60 (2adults and 2kids) which is pretty decent. Although the price of a train from London is over £300 return even with an advance booking.

£60 quid family ticket competitively priced?

Really?

I would suggest £40 nearer the mark to get a family of four there..

£20 each the adults and free for the kids...

You are looking at circa £35 tops for the movies or ten pin bowling on a Monday night for a family of four...

We must remember that the powers that be run meetings for the benefit of a few riders and not the fee paying public who are basically given what is on offer on a take it or leave basis.

Shame that the promoters show so little regard for those who turn out to watch what is sometimes dross and treat them which such contempt.

I agree, if this was held on a Friday or Saturday more supporters would travel as they do to the GPs and surely the host stadium would make more money.

Says it all when I think it was Tungate who was recently in the Star bemoaning the way speedway was run in this country because it did not suit the overseas riders who would coming flocking back if it changed. U K speedway can neither afford or should give in to rider demands and should plough its own furrow starting by allowing clubs to race on days that suit the business not the rider. Clubs should sign riders who want to commit to British speedway and not want to ride simply to top up the coffers when they have a lull in Poland or elsewhere.

Sadly nothing will change and in a few years it will be into single figures the tracks left running and they will only survive if riders are part time and have jobs elsewhere.

100%...

But. Dont forget Promoters love being associated with the "better riders" so will do whatever is needed to accommodate them..

As winning any of the leagues "really means something" doesnt it?

Hence Div 2 clogs up a clear development pathway from Div 3 by using so many Div 1 HL's and SS's...

And with only six teams in Div 1 then the tail will always wag the dog...

When a rider of the calibre of Jeremy Doncaster never won this title is shows you the quality of the field back in the day. Still can’t believe he never won one!

Add Nigel Boocock to that list!

Nige Booey runner-up 3 times to Briggs and Mauger. Peter Craven was only Brit to win it, twice, in first 12 years, 60-72. Briggo 6 wins, Mauger 4. Surprised Lee Richardson never won it, and looks like Screeny most runners-up positions. Scotty still most wins of all-time, 7.
