BERWICK v MILDENHALL (NDL) Saturday, June 18th (7pm)

Recommended Posts

The league champions arrive at Shielfield on Saturday to challenge the league leaders.

Jason Edwards has been in sparkling form of late, and will test the top-end Bullets to the full.

James Shanes is off long-tracking, but the Bog Moggies have obtained a special dispensation to use Danny Phillips as a guest.

GHT Bullets:  1 Kyle Bickley (capt), 2 Mason Watson, 3 Ace Pijper, 4 Greg Blair, 5 Luke Crang, 6 Kieran Douglas, 7 Ben Rathbone

Manchett's Fen Tigers: 1 Jason Edwards (capt), 2 Sam Bebee, 3 Jack Kingston, 4 Alex Spooner, 5 Danny Phillips (guest), 6 Josh Warren, 7 Luke Muff.

All Adults/Concessions/OAP £10,  Accompanied juniors (12-15) £3, Accompanied children (under 12) £1

To encourage purchase of tickets online, the promotion are offering FREE ENTRY to all under-16s accompanying an adult who has bought their ticket online.

Online tickets are the club's recommended way to enjoy speedway at Shielfield Park.      It's quick and easy, you get your money straight back in the event of a cancellation and the administration is much less of a burden on an already hard-working and committed volunteer staff.       Book at www.berwickspeedway.com/tickets

The cash turnstiles will be open as usual, but any children entering at that point will require to be paid for.

Weekend weather forecast looks promising, so another sunny Saturday looks likely -- bring it on!

Not sure why a club should get "special dispensation" for a guest, according to the rules they should either be allowed a guest or not!

Rules should be black & white and easy to understand!

It may be because Danny is our asset?

I would guess Shanes is riding in a FIM type event somewhere ( maybe long track ) in which case they would be allowed a guest even if the rider is not a number 1.

Actually, the rule is clear enough.  A missing NDL rider from 2-5 in the order should only be replaced by R/R.

But the dispensation comes because Shanes is representing the ACU in an FIM competition (book actually says 'speedway' without mentioning long-tracking) allowing a choice between R/R and a guest.

Don't think a dispensation is needed. 12.4 states:

If a rider is representing their FMN in an FIM/FIME Speedway
Championship, irrespective of the rider’s MA, a choice of G or RR facility is
available.

That's the same wording as the rule in the Championship section that allowed a guest for Harris when on long track duty. So my reading is that it is an application of the rules NOT a dispensation.

I have no issue with Mildenhall using a guest, if that's what the rules allow.

Otherwise as soon as one team gets "special dispensation" then everyone else would want it.

Like Glasgow getting an awarded victory after 9 heats, so Redcar expect the same & it's not allowed. Sticking to the rules saves loads of hassle imo

Sticking to the rules seems to be speedway`s achilles heel at times as there is always the special dispensation or in the interests of speedway get out.

Anyway for the riders who are racing and for those who are watching Saturday is dry, a bit cloudy but its dry and forecast to stay that way.

Jack Kingston one to look out for was very spectacular last Night. Not sure how long he has been riding but was impressed by him.

I was looking at his record for the program. He started in 2011 but has missed several seasons. Certainly impressive.

Bullets to tame the Tigers 51-39

I have a feeling it’ll be a lot closer than that. A lot will depend on how motivated Kyle Bickley is.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Mildenhall get a match point at least

Great win for the Bullets and a fully deserved point for the Fen Tigers. Could’ve easily been more for them but for the heroics of Ben Rathbone who was the Bullets match winner with 9+1. A brilliant 5-1 in the penultimate heat when Rathbone raced to a win as a reserve switch, Greg Blair grabbing second place with a sublime pass on Alex Spooner.
Kyle Bickley with a skippers performance, taking care of the impressive Jason Edwards in the final heat to seal the win.
A good evenings entertainment. It’s a shame there wasn’t more there to see it.

Interesting looking @ the reserves scores Berwick 12   Mildenhall 3. Looks like a good meeting for those present & both teams coming away with something.

He just missed out on his max in Heat 13 but was that not the most effortless 14 points you’ve seen from Kyle Bickley. He really was on it last night… Being against Jason Edwards in 3 of his races and beating him twice considering the form he is currently in! I sincerely hope that he does well whilst at Newcastle.. not for Newcastle of course  but just for himself!
