Guests are part of a sport that is on its knees. I would suggest that having a team using other teams riders in a supposed professional sport in front of an empty stadium doesn't paint the sport a good picture. 3

Lefty
Another success story for the so called "protected" Monday / Thursday Premier 'No Variety' League.... and it's on TV as well. What a shambles..... again!

As has been said, totally ludicrous to run a meeting on a night when it would be 100% expected to have riders from either team, (and probably both), missing.. The message it screams out is "League Speedway doesnt really matter anyway"... And if the Promoters are quite happy to not take it seriously, then what chance have you got of convincing the fans to? Not to mention, broadcasters and sponsors... Now. No doubt some of those "devotees" will say "fixture congestion, no dates available" as so many do from both leagues on this platform when the same thing happens time and time again.. However, you can guarantee that any meeting that gets rained off will still get ran later in the season, therefore dates are always available.. All valid points but you have to ask why the FIM chose to have these qualifiers on a designated UK race night, dont know if the promoters could do anything about that, does underline the level of protection UK race nights actually have. Its going to be the proverbial one man and his dog tonight. Its interesting when Manchester storm were getting 12,000 to 16,000 at the arena for ice hockey, John Perrin stated as soon as they stop giving out free tickets the bubble will burst which it did big style and the club folded, with that in mind would freebie tickets work in speedway? TTT
If the track has grip out wide then Danny King could be a match winner for Ipswich. Danny is gating well this season but he keeps drifting out wide on bends 1/2 allowing everyone to pass him. Huge pressure on the inconsistent Kurtz tonight as well. Very tough meeting to call and for the very first time this season I'm actually going to sit on the fence because it really does come down to how Kurtz & King perform on the night imo. Well lets see - the Abensberg fixture date was done in November and The Debrecen date in March- was that early enough for the BSPA to realise the possibility of a clash. It`s also somewhat amusing to me that Australia have a place in the Nagyhalasz round on Saturday, yet Fricke ends up in Abensberg that clashes with Belle Vue. Is there anyone that`s connected with Australia and Belle Vue ?

Considering it is still school hols in a lot of Grt Manchester, I did think that with the inevitable TV crowd level, (now compounded even more by Mickey Mouse's involvement), that it could have been an opportunity anyway to just give several 100 tickets away... No loss of revenue as they wouldnt have been there anyway in the vast majority of cases, and it would have filled the place, making it look popular on TV, and also, at the same time, come across that it was somewhere "ver kidz" would go to in numbers.. No need to mention the freebies on comms, just mention "how great it is to see so many young people attending Speedway"... Still... Much better to do nothing and show swathes and swathes of empty seats... That will definitely get people casually watching interested... Is there anyone that`s connected with Australia and Belle Vue ? I have noticed that the Poles often have quite a few FIM meetings (GP's, GP Challenges, SEC qualifying, SEC Finals, SON Finals, GP2 rounds etc etc), ran at the weekend (on their protected days/nights)... However.. What they slyly do is quite cunning in that they actually plan their fixture lists around these meetings... A truly amazing concept... And one that will never catch on over here though, thank goodness... NB. When you want to run the Sport from Monday to Sunday like the UK does (using the same riders in a vast amount of cases), you will inevitably get some clashes I would suspect.. Until we can start using a ten day week maybe, thus freeing up 3 days for the UK to leave free...? Edited June 6, 2022 by mikebv 1

I think we are assuming that there are thousands tuning in to a sport that very few, bar diehards, have any interest in or even heard/aware of. The diehards know that the few hundred on the terraces is a normal occurance nowadays. The problem is getting new people to actually watch it on the telly and being impressed enough to go along physically, and that's something that speedway has never really figured out... On the face of it quite straightforward. Looking at the Belle Vue fixture list there are only two free Mondays from now until mid September.

I have no idea but Monday has become the accustomed night for them. Riding on 'off' nights have a detrimental affect on crowd numbers. Poole couldn't make it work switching from Wednesday and it finished Rye House.

wtf
You gotta love it. Belle vue running RR for max when Josh Pickering is there commentating. A couple of weeks ago Josh happily went by max in heat 13 but no doubt Mark Lemon thinks he’ll get more from RR. Be interesting to see how that ends up ?
