lbw
Just been chatting to a young Monarchs fan at Poole station. He's off to Peterborough tonight & Belle Vue on Friday on the train meeting up with mates. Great to see. Both agreed that Monarchs should av got a point for their efforts. There is younger support out there who like to travel to support speedway & by train the same as me. The myth is busted Kieran the Monarch he be, just guided him through the London underground to St.Pancras. And he'll also be at Leicester's double header on Sunday vs Berwick so I'll see him there Speedway, the real deal Save the Monarchs Edited June 2, 2022 by Turnip
JanAndersen
Could someone summarise the outputs of the meeting tonight for those of us unable to attend? Much appreciated

I doubt very much if a track could be laid without major changes to the size of the football area and would the Football club be allowed to reduce the playing pitch just to lay a new track around it. Speedway is not returning to Coatbridge. Ever. Certainly not to that stadium.

Gordon was very professional and handled the questions calmly and well. It's all been thought through in a lot of detail. Have to be very concerned about the cost though. And the timescales are very tight. Don't really see how a site purchase option could be a goer vs a lease option but maybe there are some very generous benefactors around who don't need a return on investment. Certainly could be very exciting times ahead.
bloom89
A big potential blow to the future of Edinburgh speedway, the land that they had found to build the west lothian community stadium on the council have decided to sell the land to another bidder. Mr Blobby
It’s extremely disappointing news for the club as the council helped find the land and put the land up for sale for us to purchase. There was only ever one other bidder who the labour members of the committee who have majority of the vote have given the land too which will be used to build industrial units which he will rent out. Certain members of the board (labour members) have seen the money signs and seen it as a quick cash fix for the council rather than the long term gain and community aspect of it. It really is a shame cause everyone else within the committee was all for the monarchs getting the land but when one party hold the majority vote then what chance do you have.
lucifer sam
What a kick in the doo-dahs. Good luck Edinburgh. Hope you can find a solution for 2023. Edited September 7, 2022 by lucifer sam
topaz325
It seems to be the way councilor's work, their own best interests against the long-term community gain. A council near to me is trying to take land from a farmer to extend and redevelop an Industrial estate and business hub, needless to say there is some strong opposition to this plan. Jaizer
That's not good news at all. Even if find an alternative must put 2023 as a minimum in doubt. Fingers crossed there's more irons in the fire
JanAndersen
Really disappointing. As has been said next season has to be extremely unlikely. Hopefully there are other options to explore.
Fromafar
Sad news .Never trust Council when money is involved.Brown envelopes no doubt.
Noelinho
That’s incredibly disappointing. It looked like a great proposal. Nicer track than the current one, better facilities, no further to travel from Glasgow from a purely selfish perspective too. I hope they can find an alternative. Endeavour
At the Deer Park fans meeting I asked what contingency plans were in place, meaning if this new stadium plan didn’t come to fruition. The reply I was given was more along the lines of we may have to start the season in May at new stadium. Seems never trust the Council. If that is the case ( allegedly ) , then the good news would be that continued brown envelope production has not been adversely affected by the energy crisis. There's always winners and losers. Nothing changes.
Steve Shovlar
It was absolutely ridiculous to announce anything until the land had actually been purchased. To say they were after a bit of prime land, and a stadium would be built by the start of next season was pie in the sky and all that it did was raise supporters hopes and alert potential property developers. Now it has dashed them. It would have been dar better to have stayed quiet, get on with buying the land without fans knowledge, submit plans with the local council, gain planning permissions and if it took a further year, then so what. Instead today there are a lot of very disappointed Edinburgh fans. I feel for them. Edited September 7, 2022 by Steve Shovlar

Everyone was made aware to help drum interest to get the local community involved in it to raise funds. How are the club supposed to do that by keeping it hush. Everyone knew from the start it wasn’t a certainty. The club made everyone aware of that.
