29.04.2022 League: Scunny v Plymouth

Recommended Posts

I can't see anything but a big win for the Gladiators @ home on Tuesday. However I see Fridays return match not so easy to predict, with a good choice (& performance) from Eddie Kennett's guest replacement this could be another win for the Gladiators.

Isn’t there a rule to stop using the same guest loads of meetings in a row or have I just imagined that ?

Used to be an 8 day rule from memory meant you couldn't guest for home team 2 weeks running.

When there started to be almost every team riding on a Friday night and the Chairman's Club had the need of a Guest all season in 2019 the rule was eased.

It's created the equivalent of speedway mercenaries who will now ride 7days a week if they can, as heat leader guests are in short supply.

It’s strange Lawson wouldn’t sign for Plymouth as he had allegedly concerns about been paid , but now he is prepared to guest for them

Maybe he had concerns about being paid for a large chunk of the season as opposed to a couple of matches.Would expect he would get paid pretty quickly for guesting or he wouldn't bother to guest again.

Exactly what I thought. The only problem Plymouth have is when Poole ride on the same night but that will only affect some away meetings.

The rule hasn't changed in at least a dozen years.

012.4.2(c):      A rider may ride as a guest at a track (regardless of team) only once in an 8-day period, unless he is replacing the home team's No 1.

Thus, Richard Lawson (to pick a name at random) can ride at No 1 for Plymouth at home every week for as long as Eddie Kennett is out (unless Eddie's CMA is overtaken by another Gladiator) and again in every away match unless he had been a guest at that track the previous week.

Tapped up and with a sponsorship as a sweetener no doubt.

Plus more certainty of more matches with the favourites to win everything.
