Ace no.5
Can't quite figure why a ballot when Wolves scored 10 vs Peterborough and Sheffield, Peterborough scored 9 vs Wolves and Sheffield, Sheffield scored 8 vs Peterborough and Wolves. Wolves should be through to the semi outright! Format in programme literally says "If more than 2 teams are tied, the team with the highest scoring heat results (presumably against each other otherwise no point!) will qualify".

Surely a blindfolded 3 legged egg and spoon sack race would do the trick. Or the teams go round and round the stating gate to music,, and when the music stops, the tapes go up,, first pair through the correct side Edited October 27, 2022 by Baldyman

Col
What a shabby way to end a cracking season of racing at the NSS for the Aces (no ne remembers the league cup do they?) The track looked like it had allot more material on it when I got there at 18:45 then normal and it was detrimental to the racing, which was poor. Kurtz rounding Masters, Eriksson getting the better of the Panthers down the back straight, a smart first corner from Doyle and Harris bouncing Zagar out the way were the only action I can think of. The "who qualifies" for the semi was a joke, why didn't Masters, Harris & Holder or Sedgeman, Douglas & Basso or Pjiper, Mountain & Jenkins have a runoff? Wouldn't have taken as long and at least it would have been transparent! Any chance of Belle Vue overhauling the Witches overall (if the 6th round happens) disappeared when Harris bombed out on the final lap with Riss at the back! Riss was never going to beat Kurtz or Zagar whatever Doyle did. Hope Harris & Pjiper are OK, after their big spills. Didn't get in the car 'ti l22:05, 50 minutes later than a normal night at the NSS. At least the roads were good onn the way home!

Col
Zagar will be ill Monday he thinks! Maybe Lambert will ride He was too injured o turn up for the Championship Parade at the NSS, so unlikely. Wright injured, Etheridge inured. Might be Blodorn, Monday. szkocjasid
They could very easily have spilt the 3 tied teams, most wins or results from when the 3 teams net each other, heck even race times. Anything would be better than drawing lots. Even going straight to the final is better than drawing lots. While a run-off would've been fairest & best for the fans, I'm not sure you should change the rules for a competition after it has started (even though it feels like it happens a lot). So the real question is, were sensible, clear & concise rules already in place & if not why weren't the rules challenged before the competition even started rather than during the 5th round?

Even the referee didn't know the rules, he went to the pits to talk to the team managers. In every way Wolves should have been in the semi. Most heat wins and out scored the Panthers & Tigers in the three heats involving those pairs.
Rob B
In the programme on race card stated : “Where there is a tie for semi-final qualification, a two way tie will be decided by the result from the qualifying heat they met. If more than two teams are tied, the team with the highest scoring heat results will qualify.”

Which literally means they all qualify as they all had the highest score... Do they actually get anyone to sense check their rules and regs before signing them off...? Glad I just went to get PC's book signed by the sound of things.... They are really good at running Speedway aren't they in the UK? Probably Poland's fault that so many things seem to not quite go to plan on so many occasions......

The BSPA has often come up with "great new ideas", yet never seems to have done any wargaming to work out if there are any problems, or potential problems. I know from quite a few years ago that they would agree something at the conference in principle, then one or two promoters would be assigned to work out the detail and deliver, with no further review by the others ... that's a recipe for failure.
