crescent girl
Spring is here, the wee animals are getting frisky and everyone's rummaging in their hall cupboards, looking for their speedway jackets and woolly headgear! On the first night, it's all new. Everything to play for. Every rider knows his average will rise like one of Mary Berry's best cakes, and every supporter secretly believes this will be THE year. The first match of the whole Championship campaign starts at seven on Saturday, and is a repeat of last season's opener, which ended up as a big win for the Brummies. This time around, Bomber's on the side of the angels -- but the visitors have recruited the British Champion! It'll be a first-ever presentation by the BSN too -- and with local interest at a healthy level, thanks to the Harris-factor, expect a bumper opening-night crowd. To avoid the queues, e-ticketing is in place per the club website. FTS Bandits: 1 Chris Harris (captain), 2 Ty Proctor, 3 Theo Pijper, 4 Leon Flint, 5 Ricky Wells, 6 Jye Etheridge, 7 Kyle Bickley Curtis Sport Brummies: 1. Claus Vissing, 2 James Shanes, 3 Josh Auty, 4 Ashley Morris (captain), 5 Adam Ellis, 6 Stefan Nielsen, 7 James Pearson Referee: The Dish

Jaizer
Big home win I'd have thought. Vissing should do ok as an ex bandit, beyond that doesn't look a strong side for shielfield. Don't see many teams taking anything from Berwick at home this season. On another note it's not a particularly enticing meeting to start the streaming with. Ellis should provide back to Vissing(if he’s there)

As Brummies or bandits fans absolutely. But just think missed a trick not throwing in Oxford Vs Poole or Glasgow Vs Edinburgh intice more neutrals in. Just an opinion. Or Berwick Vs Redcar if was destined to be Berwick at home..don't want wrath of bandits fans lol Edited March 29, 2022 by Jaizer .

Fair point well made. Wee bit fixture manipulation, that's what was required
HGould
I fear a good tonking for the Brummies. Will Ellis be in France, Poland, his back garden or timbucktoo? If he is there will he have one of his better bikes. You certainly need a motor round Berwick. I think Proctor and Pijper are astute signings tailor made for that very exciting banking. Flint is reaching undoubted potential now and in Bomber and Wells 2 proper heat leaders and Etheridge is a PL reserve too and like Bickley a track specialist. As for streaming, a great initiative I wish well but is it really going to attract new support? I'll be happy if it keeps existing support enthused enough to keep supporting at home and may be entice a few previous fans to try again. No point getting new fans in if old ones are drifting off in greater numbers or cherry picking matches. Berwick under the Courtney's are bucking trends and succeeding in growing the sport. Good luck to them. I look forward to watching the stream. Edited March 29, 2022 by HGould Spelling
GiveusaB
I don't think it's Ellis that needs to worry about 'bikes' ? (Auty) I too fear a bit of a spanking, but in Morris/Ellis/Vissing we have 3 riders with double figure potential ? Can the remaining 4 claw 16 points between them, for a narrow win ? Bandits4eva
You know something… after last season I’m taking nothing for granted. Bomber had a bit of a mare last night at Wolverhampton but thankfully he knows what the issue was! I do admit to feeling more confident going into heats 13 & 15 this season which is a grand thought to have for once As long as we get 3 points for the home win and Brum get nowt then it’s job done

If you had Glasgow v Edinburgh (as an example) then some fans could watch the stream instead of gong to the meeting. I have no idea who the other Berwick meetings are but I would like to think they wouldn't include Redcar, Newcastle, Edinburgh or Glasgow for the same reason as the example above. If all teams are being shown twice at home and twice away from home, there will be some meetings that are more appealing to the neutral fans than other meetings. GiveusaB
Morris and Shanes go well at Berwick...if Claus brings his A game, then I think we'll push Berwick very close. Hoping Bomber rides the same bike as he did on Monday at Wolverhampton !

bloom89
I actually think this will be closer than people think, Berwick have a couple of riders with question marks hanging over them, are we going to see the Proctor of last season or the one of the season before. Wells average has been dropping the last couple of seasons is it permanent decline or were there other issues? And for Birmingham Ellis is usually good out the starts which is key at Berwick and Vissing done pretty well the other day for not riding over here for a couple of seasons. Throw in Morris who can't be as poor as he was last season. Nielsen at reserve is decent IF he can stay fit..,. but the key for me is which Auty turns up if he's got his head right he could make the difference between a close meeting or a comfortable home win.
