According to the ekstraliga website crowds for the 2022 season so far are about 20% down from the 2018 and 2019 seaons. Any reasons for this?

Probably down to the league becoming unbalanced and with the play-offs now being increased to 6 teams it's basically making almost every meeting pointless too.

Russian situation hasn't helped either, I'd expect attendances to increase again next season though.

Plus no ZG maybe?

An unbalanced league and a lot of pointless meetings doesn't sound like a great set up

Wouldn`t believe what TTT says some of the time- crowds are still good- very much the ZG factor.

Judging by your table below it looks like he is spot on. Ostrow don't have a point and were probably down a long time ago. Lublin are miles in front.

So 6 out of 7 teams go forward to the playoffs.

Yes but one thing that you both don`t understand is that the Poles don`t view matches as pointless- the fans just want to see their team their team and hopefully  win, but  will support them irrespective.

Attendances here https://speedwayekstraliga.pl/terminarz-i-wyniki/pge-ekstraliga/  for Extraleague 2022- and pretty impressive if you ask me (some rounded up i would suggest).

Something must be up if crowds are down 20% from the 2018 and 2019 seasons

I cannot find the article- i would be very surprised if that is the figure.

Attendance figures are on the Ekstraliga site. Obviously the whole season isn't done yet this year but the average across the league in these years are:

2018: 10,559

2019: 10,815

2022: 8,265

Some key factors might be:

Leszno's average is down from 11,922 in 2018 and 11,196 in 2019 to 5,300 this year.

Zielona Gora are not in the league and they had 12,222 and 10,714 in those seasons, whilst Ostrow are running 6,274.

Czestochowa have also seen a significant drop.

Play off matches probably push the average up.

Be prepared to be surprised then

Yes but the figures to mean anything should be compared at the end of the season- It’s like comparing Apples and Pears. I am pretty sure the average at the end of the season will be more than 18 and 19. Anyway my point still stands it’s got nothing to do with meaningless matches or the make up of the teams- lets talk again in October !!
