Tbh i don't really have a problem with it being a world championship, as it is all clear from the outset. Same as asking if some are really worthy of being an Olympic champion when countries boycott a year. I do though personally think the ice speedway shouldn't be recognised as a world championship, as the Russians competed in the first two rounds and then are banned from taking any further part. But of course tickets have been sold and contracts signed based on the meetings being world championship rounds...... For instance, one of my early sporting favourites was Allan Wells, who won the 1980 gold medal in 100m. Now the US boycotted the Games held in USSR along with many othecountries. But for me he is a gold medalist......and anyway a short time after beat all the best US sprinters too Edited March 8, 2022 by iris123

Triple.H.
I honestly can't believe some of what I've read on here and social media regarding the Russians not being in the GPs devaluing the series. Maybe it will maybe it won't Whoever wins, like it or lump it is World Champion. Even though the Russians not riding is only a very small nibble at Putin compared to other sports and Economic restrictions, I'd far rather see GPs without them than thousands if not millions of lives destroyed

Agreed But it may force those innocent people to overthrow their current leader as if the West go into try and sort it out we will definitely end up with WW3. The only way to solve the Putin Problem is for the Russians themselves to do it. Hopefully they have a suitable candidate for leadership with a following in the general population and among the armed forces. 2
OveFundinFan
I was reading an article earlier. Related to Putins former teacher, she wrote a book about him some years ago. Apparently he stopped socialising when he was 11 years old. Went into his shell and concentrated on sports, especially Judo…. he is a black belt. He always wanted to win at sports, he had to be first….. always. Perhaps that gives an insight why it is important for Russian sport stars to be banned from the world scene. He loves to see Russians succeed, so cut them off. Sweden and Finland are reconsidering joining NATO, something they have tried not to joking, claiming they are neutral. Finlands is joined to Russia and Sweden is not far away at all, and not being in NATO they are as vulnerable as Ukraine. McDonalds is closing all its outlets in Russia, no doubt at hugh financial loss, together with Starbucks and Coca Cola. The people of Russia must decide their future, they must see that the world is not with them, be strong, and get rid of him.

Unlikely to happen, some exiled Russians in the West have said that the Generals in Moscow are even more hard line than Putin...

DutchGrasstrack
Laguta his Russian license is now withdrawn as well by the Russian federation because of his criticism about the war & Putin. Same for Tarasenko. Both are not allowed to race in Russia (and also national team). Edited March 9, 2022 by DutchGrasstrack

Or is he stuck in Russia? Artyom Laguta and Vadim Tarasenko are disqualified from the Russian competitions and the Russian Team The Track Commission for Racing on the cinder track analyzed the statements of Russian racers Artyom Laguta and Vadim Tarasenko in the media, as well as on Internet platforms, discrediting the honor and dignity of the Russian Federation and the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Racers who made unworthy statements and their opinions on the situation in the country do not deserve to be called the proud name of a Russian athlete and represent the honor of the Russian Federation at international competitions. Based on the above, it was decided: 1. Revoke permission to participate in International competitions and international leagues. 2. Revoke the National License (Russian license). 3. Withdraw these athletes from the Russian National Team. 4. To disqualify Artyom Laguta and Vadim Tarasenko from participation in Russian competitions in accordance with the Charter of the IFR and the Sports Code.
