Stuart Robson Farewell Meeting

Calling off a meeting is never easy. Calling one off when the sun is shining and there’s no threat of rain is ten times worse.

and calling it off with fans queuing at the turnstiles is 100 times worse than that.

I understand that Robbo wanted to get this meeting on after all of the failures of the past, but it's still an event that fans are expected to pay for at the end of the day.

ROBBO TAKE 5………

We can confirm that the date for Robbo Take 5 will be SUNDAY 4TH JUNE with the meeting again to be held at the Ecco Arena, home of the Redcar Bears with a 3pm start.

Huge thanks to the BSPA for giving us another opportunity, and also to Jamie Swales for his support.

Works starts again now to get the line-up together, and we appreciate that during the season this will mean there will be a fair few amendments to the line-up, but once again we will attempt to put together the best possible line-up as a send-off for Robbo.

One big change will be that unfortunately due to the date change, this clashes with the a round of the Young Lions Speedway championship meaning we won’t be able to host any of their demonstration races this time around.

I (Martin) will contact those sponsors who had kindly agreed to sponsor parts of the Young Lions part of the meeting and work out a plan.

If there is any one out there who would be willing to contribute anything else to us as a form of sponsorship please drop us an email to robbosfarewel@hotmail.com we are trying to claw back some of the £4-5k that was spent on the last failed staging. Any support is gratefully received.

We go again!!!!!

Simon Lambert Racing is confirmed as the first rider to once again agree to ride in the 5th attempt to run the Stuart Robson Farewell Meeting
Simon has been scheduled to ride in all previous 4 attempts and when the meeting was postponed in March, he stated on the day that if he was free on the new date then he would happily rejoin us.
Simon will remain in the Number 1 racejacket.

SEDGY IS BACK WITH US
2023 Birmingham Brummie and Leicester Lion Justin Sedgmen is back in the line up for Robbos Farewell on Sunday 4th June.
We would like to thank Justin for again agreeing to join us and he will again be in the number 16 racejacket.
Working hard to get the line-up into the best shape it can be for the 5th time

We would like to that Starkey for his consistent support of the meeting.

MR TWO SPONSORED RACEJACKETS BACK AT RESERVE!!
Delighted to confirm Kyran Lyden as one of the meeting reserves again for our 5th attempt to run at Redcar on Sunday 4th June 3pm start.
Kyran has been one of the meeting reserves all the way through, but also has the honour of being the only rider that had his meeting racejacket sponsored for the full £150 AND had a 2nd racejacket also sponsored for the full amount! That takes some doing.
Kyran starts his season this Friday with Edinburgh, and we wish him the best of luck.
At this point we aren’t sure what will happen with the other meeting reserve yet. Archie has suffered a nasty injury already this season, and we will see what happens with his recovery.

DECISION TAKEN TO POSTPONE MEETING TO 2024
It is with great sadness, but also with good reasoning that we have taken the decision to postpone the meeting until the start of 2024.
When the 4th attempt fell foul to the weather in March, we had great support from the Redcar promotion, the BSPA, all of our sponsors and you the public in getting a date agreed for 4th June. The biggest challenge was that the original 16 line up for March, 12 of those 16 riders were unavailable for the new date due to other commitments, so we set about contacting replacements to make the event still a very competitive line-up. Unfortunately the availability of the replacement riders is such that we have had to take this decision.
“We have been discussing this for a few weeks, and although I want the meeting to go ahead I think the decision is the right one.” Said Robbo
“I can’t thank Jamie and the Redcar Promotion enough for their support, and also Martin and Chrisse for all of their work in helping with everything in the background. I want the event and the line-up to be the best it can be, and although we could try again at the end of the season, riders who are in league playoffs etc understandably don’t want an extra meeting at that time.”
“I know when we eventually get to run it will be a great meeting, and I thank everyone for their patience and kind words of support”.
We will contact all of the sponsors over the next few weeks with some more details, and also those racejacket sponsors
  • Thanks 1

WE ARE BACK IN 2023 AFTERALL!!!
We are delighted to announce that with the help and support of Redcar Speedway and the BSPA a new date for the Stuart Robson Farewell Meeting sponsored by RMCS RACING has been announced for Saturday 30th September with a 5pm start time.
We had originally planned to run at the start of 2024, but after discussions have now agreed this new date.
Plans will now start again for the event, and we will be hoping as many Speedway fans as possible will come out and support a true British Speedway star who has had rotten luck getting this event on.
All current sponsors will be contacted next week.
If anyone is interested in some advertising or sponsorship for the meeting, please drop us an email at Robbos Farewell@hotmail.com

CHANGE OF TITLE SPONSOR FOR FAREWELL MEETING
When attempting the 4th running of the Farewell Meeting, we were kindly contacted by Gordon Pairman with a very generous offer to become meeting sponsor through his RMCS RACING.
With the postponement in March causing a loss of approx £5,000 from the money that was being raised to give Stuart the send off he deserves, we have been looking for additional sponsors/advertisers to try and fill some of that gap created, and Gordon has kindly helped out again, but has also agreed to waive the meeting sponsorship title, and that has kindly been supported by Richard and the team at Rentruck
Rentruck are a big supporter of riders in the UK and are closely linked with the Belle Vue Aces, and they have agreed to help out after a discussion with Gordon. The speedway community never fail to amaze us, and the generosity shown will help towards filling some the financial gap already suffered earlier this season.
So now we have the Stuart Robson Farewell Meeting sponsored by RENTRUCK
If anyone else would like to get in touch
and help out with anything please drop an email to robbosfarewell@hotmail.com

Simon picked up 2 race wins at Belle Vue last night in a very encouraging performance on such a big stage.
“Simon has been a great supporter of my event, and has always been one of the first to say count me in when we have been cancelled. It’s great to see someone so supportive and I was really chuffed for him last night. “ said Robbo
Simon will again be sponsored by TREVS TYRES, with his tyre sponsored by SEAN WILKINSON and his fuel by KEV AND LEIGH AUSTIN

Robbo and Starkey rode together at the sadly lost Newcastle Diamonds, and it’s a friendship they have maintained
Paul will be sponsored by George English and Family with his tyre being sponsored by THE ARMSTRONG FAMILY with his fuel sponsored by AGF PLANT

ROBBO WANTS TO GIVE YOUTH A CHANCE TO SHINE
4th rider announced for the Stuart Robson Farewell Meeting sponsored by Rentruck Rochdale is Belle Vue Colt Freddy Hodder
Hodder who is having a good season with the Colts is someone Stuart knows well, and Robbo has even spent some time with him on the spanners
“I’ve known Freddy’s family a long time, and have got to know Freddy during some track practice days at Leicester and I really want to showcase some of the up and coming riders in my meeting” said Robbo
“We are working hard on putting a line-up together, and it isn’t easy with the Play-off picture meaning some guys can’t commit to an extra meeting, and I get that and fully understand it. There might be a couple of riders in the line-up that people aren’t expecting, but I will be putting together a line-up that will definitely put on an entertaining night.”
Freddy will be sponsored for the meeting by CLIVE AND DOT FALLON with his tyre sponsored by FANBOY GEOFF TAYLOR. His fuel is sponsored IN MEMORY OF JACK CUTHBERTSON
Hodder will wear racejacket number 9 and this is now available to sponsor by sending through a messenger or by emailing robbosfarewell@hotmail.com starting bids from £30

ROBBOS FAREWELL MEETING TO AGAIN INVOLVE THE YOUNG LIONS
We are delighted to announce that the Young Lions Speedway group will form part of the Stuart Robson Farewell Meeting at Redcar on Saturday 30th September with a 5pm start.
As you will all know by now, Robbo has always been a big supporter of the work done by Neil Vatcher and the crew linked to the Young Lions, and when putting together the plan for meeting, once again Stuart wanted to give track time to the up and coming lads in the sport
“Supporting the youngsters is very close to my heart, and if it wasn’t for the support I received as a young lad it would have been even harder to make a career in the sport. The package that has been going now for a few years really gives these lads some time on the bike, and I really wanted to ensure those in the stadium get to see these guys in action. I’m going to ensure they all get 3 rides each and hope they enjoy themselves. If there is anyone out there who is able to contribute anything towards the young lions part of the event, please drop Martin an email at robbosfarewell@hotmail.com” said Robbo
Riders taking part are as follows:
125cc Oliver Bovingdon Racing # 15, Archie Rolph, Ollie Binns and Casper Kluczniak
We look forward to seeing the guys in action on September 30th

HOTSHOT BOUGHEN IS RIDER NUMBER 5
The 5th rider to be announced for the Stuart Robson Farwell meeting sponsored by Rentruck is 16 year old British hot-shot Ashton Boughen
Boughen who only started riding speedway less than a year ago only turned 16 last week, but was immediately snapped up by the Oxford Cheetahs for the remainder of their so far successful Championship Campaign.
“Every now and then you get a rider coming through the youth set-up that excites everyone….and Ashton is that current rider. It was no surprise to me that a club had signed him up so early, and already you have seen Ipswich giving him a few guest bookings in the Premiership. It’s nice to see a young Brit given a chance.” Said Robbo
Ashton will be sponsored for the meeting by JOHN AND IRENE ROBSON with his tyre sponsored by MARGY AND FAMILY. fuel for the night sponsored by SANDRA GIBBONS IN MEMORY OF STEVE GIBBONS
Ashton will wear the number 13 racejacket and this is available to sponsor by emailing robbosfarewell@hotmail.com

IT’S HER GAME TOO AT ROBBOS FAREWELL
6th rider to be announced for the Stuart Robson Farewell meeting sponsored by Rentruck is one to capture the imagination of all speedway fans with the first competitive meeting in the UK for the Worlds Number 1 female rider Celina Liebmann
Leibmann made history when taking part in the SGP2, and has continued her progress in the sport and recently was at the forefront of the FIM Women in Speedway event at Belle Vue.
“When we heard that Celina was trying to secure a place in the UK in 2024, we made contact with her and offeered her a place in the meeting. After a few discussions, everything was agreed and Celina confirmed that she would love the opportunity to be in the line-up.” said meeting organiser Martin Coleman
“So many speedway fans are female, and I think this is a fantastic story for the sport, and for Stuart’s meeting in particular. We have been up against so many obstacles with covid through to weather call offs, and really hope this captures the imagination of the fans in the UK, and as many as possible come out to witness history with Celina taking part in her first official meeting in the UK. Robbo deserves a big crowd and hopefully this will bring a few more through the gates”. Said Coleman
Celina will be sponsored for the meeting on Saturday 30th September at Redcar by Craig Saul with her tyre sponsored by Steve Brock Photography and her fuel by KEVIN KEAY
Celina will wear the number 5 racejacket and this sponsorship has already been taken for the full amount

Lee is another who has been in the line-up previously, and we are delighted that he is available again for our 5th attempt.
“Lee is another British rider who has been around and never gives up. Someone the crowd will enjoy watching and I’m sure he will be making a nuisance of himself, even more so if he gets out of the start. I’m grateful to him for agreeing to ride again.”said Robbo
