Birmingham Assets and Payments

Interesting reading about several riders have not been paid for matches ridden in for Birmingham during the 2021 season.

Surely these riders deserve payment, be it from the bond with the SCB/BSPA or sale of assets (if any) left at Birmingham prior to any proposed sale of the club.

Very disappointed that this is still occurring and hopefully every rider at both Birmingham and Eastbourne get their due monies before Christmas.

We all live and hope!

i agree , it is sad .but the  people to blame are the promotion of clubs who dont cut their cloth accordingly  !

there are only a handful of clubs that can run their club and pay out large sums of money to riders . good luck to them .

if ride X gets  large sums per point , then their mates want the same . we all know a good team will attract bigger followers , but in time the followers get board and find something else to do like fishing , bowls or even budgie jumping .lol.  you dont need a million pound team the get entertainment for your crowd .so the promotions are to blame for thinking they need x amount of fans through the door to make it pay .

last off all , its the local fans who dont attend home meetings  because the next home meeting is against a much weaker side , they give it a  miss and before long they stop coming .

support YOUR team , because one day it will be gone .

PS the 70s were great , riders had a first job to go to and  speedway was a hobby/sport that gave them bread n butter money .good days lost forever IMO.

look on the Scunthorpe Scorpions 2022  thread . page 27 , first post . SAYSIT ALL REALLY  sad

The big (& grossly unfair)anomaly regarding riders being paid/not paid is that riders would be in an immediate breach of contract should they refuse to ride because of not being paid for previous work (meetings) done with the consequence of not being allowed to ride elsewhere in UK. Promoters however have no reciprocal action taken against them for not paying their workers/contractors “on time”
Whilst clearly this set of circumstances is so that  “The show must go on” (which wouldn’t happen if riders withhold their services) it seems appropriate that something along the lines of rules being set where riders must be paid no later than (say) 10 days past the due date and if that  payment is not made then the BSPA makes the payment from the Bond fund. The delinquent promotion then has to reimburse the fund within a set period time with interest or face further sanctions.
Frankly the only promotions who would be unable to live with this type of agreement are those who are in reality unviable in the first place and need to face the consequences sooner rather than later so the sport has a realistic financial & moral operating base to work within.

Great idea there. It is also not in a riders interests to make a big issue out of non payment of "wages" since they may be overlooked for a team place in the following season.
