Opened in October 1950, Penarth Road Stadium was a purpose-built speedway stadium paid for by Major A. J. Lennox and his business partner Leslie Maidment. The first races held here were in April 1951 but racing was wound up in 1953 after a series of poorly attended events. The site remained derelict until 1969 when it was demolished. The site is commemorated in the street name 'Stadium Close'.

Interesting to see that Exeter was an athletics stadium pre-speedway.

What exactly was Ringwood? I went there once for a long(ish) track event in the early 90s...with Wiggy, Hagon, Schofield and the like. Seemed like a one off and not really sure what the place was otherwise used for?

It's currently used for Banger racing

It was speedway in the 1950's, initially for training but the Ringwood Turfs were members of the SAL in 1954/5. It was later used by Poole for training in the early 70's.

The track you saw racing on was the 'mini longtrack' which was closed after a sidecar fatality in 1992.

Have a feeling that Martin Yeates used to practice there?

Any chance someone posting up Middlesbrough? I often travel the A19 and look down from the flyover trying to trace its exact whereabouts?

Also King's Lynn. I stopped off in King's Lynn a couple of years ago and saw a sign for Saddlebow and it looked nothing like I remember it?

How did you find that! Needle in a haystack would be easier ha ha.

I grew up in the area, although many years after stadium was demolished.
