Don't get the obsession with big tracks that often deliver spread out processional racing.

Surely a track similar length  to Armadale and Redcar built to modern requirements with shorter straights and sweeping turns is ideal.

Besides if wishing to retain most of the current 1 to 7 surely give them like for like as opposed to something totally alien.

Absolutely but I'd have thought 300 is probably the ideal if the right shape. But if the available area means a great racetrack that's 260m then who cares.

BTW plenty of spread out processional racing on the little uns too. The secret is to have plenty of lines and room whatever the length.

Fantastic News for Monarchs Management and fans, hopefully with the basics in place Monarchs can run I 2023.Also well done to West Lothian Council for recognising the Monarchs situation and being Pro -active,something Edinburgh  Council should hold their head in shame for over the last 25-30 years.

Great news for Edinburgh Speedway & speedway in general & hope the work can start soon while the weather is supposed to be good(heat wave but maybe not as hot in Scotland B)) for the next few months. I am unsure of the Council boundaries but with this area being not far from Armadale, is it in the same Council? Edinbugh Council would struggle to find spare land closer to the city. Looking at google maps, even Armadale can not be developed too much further because of the tree line but land for building houses makes more money & sense.

Good luck in 2023 & beyond, where ever you start racing.

It’s in West Lothian as is Armadale.

With the problems facing a few current venues, this is brilliant news. With Northside making amazing progress, maybe there is a bit of hope for Panthers finding a new home.

Surely there is a retirement or care home with a large back garden big enough for a track for Dad's Army?

Def need the Panthers to continue though so hopefully somewhere will be found.

Great news. I’m guessing the realistic date is going to be 2024, but this announcement came remarkably quickly in truth.

Probably a good thing the new track will clearly be closer to Edinburgh than Glasgow too!

2023 we’ll be at the tapes ready to go.

In guessing with the staggered nature of the development they mention might just be track and maybe a shed style covering to start with? Was it Buxton asked cars to turn their lights on at side of the track if got a bit dark lol.

It's the way forward having your own track with no restrictions on what can do or when have access. Hopefully few more will follow your lead

I personally prefer tracks bigger than 260m but what's far more important is, 'shorter straights and sweeping turns'. Preferably some width to the track so riders can explore different lines. Best of luck to the Management.

260 metres in length to reach International Standard would probably be wide(r) straights & bends although hasn't Berwick got FIM status with narrow straights?

Don’t think the Berwick straits have ever been narrow,it was the entrance to the bends that were the problem for good racing. It’s was FIM standard before the track was modified.

They’ll have enough in place that it’ll be ready to start the season. As you said with the staggered development it won’t be complete come the start of the new season but enough that it’ll be ready to race and spectators to attend.

Track sizes can be deceptive.

As an example if you asked 100 people which was the biggest Redcar or Eastbourne I'd wager 90% would say Redcar.

It's actually 4 yards smaller.

Lost a speedway quiz due to that a few years ago for a nice old Brummies race jacket.. Lol

I agree wider straights and sweeping turns best for modern bikes which is why Ashfield is my favourite to visit.

New Workington tracks looks stunning too..

That is how we started out. Track, pits, banked spectator viewing & portacabins for toilets.

Brilliant and much welcome news!

As long as there's a track in place and bare minimum spectator facilities that's all that really matters for 2023, continuity is essential... well done to all involved, I really thought it'd be curtains for the Monarchs. We've all heard so much crap before down the years from various homeless promotions, I really hope this one comes to fruition
