I think it was 9,000.

I would suspect that may be the reason why it is probably not financially viable and if no one is prepared to bridge the gap of the cost of putting meeting on versus income from all angles including spectator revenues then it is unlikely to happen in Manchester.

Stream it and charge £20, well worth it to see the speedway gladiators fighting it out on a proper race track. Obviously supporters already paying for a bona fide “licenced” viewing does not pay again.  That should cover costs, viewers around the world.

Agree but you also have those sites who show it for free. Several were streaming the SGP2 today and yesterday’s event so the income is not what it should/could be. It would all come down to the income versus cost and I am sure someone on the forum may have an idea of what the outlay is for a GP. Perhaps the expectation of what the event ought to be like rarely fulfils what most want and a poor racing spectacle such as this weekend really brings it home.

Anyone who just forks out a kings ransom to watch the same rubbish every year is a fool.  I've no sympathy with anyone who complains about Cardiff.  It serves you right for going

However, I haven't complained nor did I go this year,  so I still fail to understand your initial response.

My point was that not all Speedway fans are just interested in the racing and nothing else, some are also interested in the social side, the experience etc and some like both but know that temporary tracks (or even permanent ones, I've been to more bad meetings at permanent tracks than I care to remember) do not always produce great racing but hope that it will be different this time.

Speedway fans come in all shapes and sizes and like different things, it is not one size fits all.

N.B When I do go to Cardiff, it's the one day coach from Ipswich and disabled with a free carer seat which doesn't exactly break the bank and is certainly not a King's ransom. Massive amount of fun on the one day coach even if it absolutely knackering.

I thought Ole Olsen had an exclusive contract with BSI and when their contract expired so did his. I might be wrong but I thought One Sport was responsable for track build now. Would explain why the track was so bad , over the last 5 years the track build under Olsen has been good, nothing like we have seen this weekend.

It was Speedsport who built the track as they have done for 15+ years, Ole Olsen was on track and the watering van had Danish plates with Vojens on the side of it.

Apparently the shale that is always in storage was moved during the winter and was contaminated with gravel. Also I suspect the high heat and humidity didn't help the track too.

Cardiff wasn't actually organised by Discovery Sport, it was organised by Paul Bellamy and co from BSI under new compnay name now of Sidetrack Ltd.

A roof would have helped, given Manchester's weather

Did it rain during the Speedway of Nations in October last year? No

Has it rained during any FIM meeting at NSS? No.

You will find over the last 6 years Belle Vue probably have one of the lowest number of rain offs of all tracks in UK.

First of all. Many congratulations to our boy blue. Daniel Bewley. Made it a special weekend for me.

track was crap. I’m told the track was stored on top of gravel and when it was collected the gravel got in the track which caused it to struggle binding. That will be sorted for next year.

regarding next year.

there seems to be 2 type of speedway fans.
1, them that go for the racing

2, them that go just to meet friends and socialise.

quite a simple solution. You have 2 UK GPs

open the season in Manchester for us that want to see the best riders in the world strut there stuff.

And in July/august have Cardiff still for them that go for everything the racing.

everyone’s a winner.

ps, I’d go to both

Don’t agree,  Elle Vue needs to be Aug/Sept hoping the weather is not raining. Having determined that would mean Cardiff the early one in May or a later one just beforeTorun.

It doesn’t rain half as much as people think in Manchester you know. ;)

That won't happen due to rugby.

Mention of the shale storage issue has me remembering the great Phil Rising.

Particularly his spats on here; when he would defend his buddy Ole and his BSI cronies to the hilt which became somewhat legendary.

And still Speedsport cannot get it right.

I always thought that Ole was a little underrated as a rider; but MASSIVELY overrated in everything he did afterwards.
The Emperors New Clothes always seems a very apt story to remember with him.

Don't lie! R87 said that speedway fans aren't interested in pubs, and judging by his tone to everyone, he knows what he's talking about!

They had got it right for years though. I think the issue was more the extreme heat/humidity. I've read articles in past with Ole that they learned track had to be specific moisture level, was probably hard to maintain that.

I am sure that will be pretty much word-for-word what Speedway Star will run with next Thursday.
