Cardiff 2022

Recommended Posts

Just got back from Cardiff and on reflection that must be the worst Cardiff GP i can remember for passing if you came out of bend 2 1st lap in front you were not getting passed by anyone.

Someone needs to sort the track out for next year or i fear people will stop going in big numbers.

Out of the 10 GP's I've been to the meetings with Pete Kildemand involved have been best for me. Fans go to Cardiff more for the experience than the racing. Perhaps the crowd was over 10000 down from 2018/19 because of 1. Train strike 2. The heat 3. Holiday season 4. Nowhere near the number of Polish fans 5. Dominance of eastern Europeans/ absence of Russians 6. Football season 7. Hassle of obtaining tickets and price increases? The racing at Oxford the previous night was no better.

That is actually a fair point.  The last time the Cardiff GP was staged in August was 2012, and although it was a good meeting that night, the crowd was well down on previous years.

Does anybody know why it was announced last night that the date for next years GP will be announced on Monday? Why not announce the date last night with fans in the stadium   I know this has happened many times before but it just seems so childish.  if you go in groups you can get organised and while you’re all together.

The answer to question 1 is Ole Olsen and his Speedsport company crew- they have had the contract for building and maintaining the temporary tracks for many years

3 is Jesper Steentoft a Dane who has been a FIM referee for quite a few years now.

I thought Ole Olsen had an exclusive contract with BSI and when their contract expired so did his. I might be wrong but I thought One Sport was responsable for track build now. Would explain why the track was so bad , over the last 5 years the track build under Olsen has been good, nothing like we have seen this weekend.

So the prices for accommodation can get hiked up ready for bookings on Monday....

It was rumoured that the people responsible for the Onesport temporary track in Chorzow were interested in the contract but no - Speedsport were re-employed by DSE. Ole Olsen was pictured on TV  yesterday talking to Phil Morris.

Just skimmed through on Discovery+ after being at the meeting yesterday. Nice words at tbe end fron Dan about Artem Laguta, and interesting to hear that Laguta has been helping him this year.

Crowd and track looked a lot worse on tv than actually being there. Coverage suffers from being on Eurosport too as it just keeps the feed goung instead of having a studio to cut to and break things up a bit.

Be interesting to see if the promoter issues a statement acknowledging there was a problem with the track. If they don't think / acknowledge there was a problem on both days then they are stuffed, as is the future of the event.

Sadly the weather won, getting any moisture in in those conditions wasn't going to happen

Asides from the track, my biggest gripe was the conditions in the stadium.  I was on the third and fourth bend, and it was uncomfortably hot and heavy in there.  The queues for drink were very slow.  I've actually been quite off colour today, so maybe a little heat stroke.

Its to give the hotels time to put the prices up!

The whole of the lower tier wasn't closed off.

We were sitting there!

First twenty rows were covered in tarp for debris.

It's very convenient to get in and out sitting there but it's not the best viewing point as you only see the rider's helmets for about a quarter of the track.

We're usually middle tier third bend and I think we'll head back there next time.

Too low for me..

Putting those there in the middle tier would fill that more too..

Lasted till Ht 17 re run,/re run today then decided the boozers of Cardiff were more of pull than waiting till possibly Monday to see the final...:D

As has already been said, hotels will put their prices up anyway….. they do all over the country when they know a big event is on…. And they have their means of knowing when big events are on.  Big events could be anything that attracts people ie conferences, exhibitions, sporting events, concerts, school hols…. Anything.

I repeat, speedway fans could not care less about how many pubs are in the area, how many museums are close by, what the catering and hospitality is like.

They go to watch exciting racing.  You haven't had that it this dump in two decades.

Bin it.  It's pants.  Belle Vue MUST be granted the GP next year.

What is the capacity of Belle Vue with additional temporary seating?

Respectfully, in what way? Why?

For running a Speedway related website or because I wanted to go or because I enjoy the social side alongside everything else?

Anyone who just forks out a kings ransom to watch the same rubbish every year is a fool.  I've no sympathy with anyone who complains about Cardiff.  It serves you right for going
