LisaColette
Lol. Although James has had a fair bit of practice at Poole, so no excuses!
J-D
The Poole track is abysmal. Embarrassing state of affairs. Scrape off any bit of dirt before the start and a dust bowl on the warm up laps. No real racing. The traffic light show behind bend three has been more interesting. Should be perfect conditions to prepare a decent race track but no, another nail in the coffin for British speedway.

Steve Shovlar
Lots of water before the meeting but looked crusty and grippy for heat one. They have taken early interval and been grading with blade. Looks better now. No more watering though. On riders instructions. Steve Shovlar
Basso looks like a serious talent. Clearly over trying on his first meeting he had heat 8 sewn up but fell on lap three on his own. Full throttle but needs to realise throttle goes both way and when clear doesn’t need to push so hard. From what we have seen looks heat leader quality no problem once he settles in. Edited August 25, 2021 by Steve Shovlar
old bob at herne bay
Don't get this lack of water on tracks recently and the resulting dust bowls. ( Poole are not alone.) No one seems to get enough water into the base of the track early enough in the day. Addidng a sprinkle on top surface during the meeting - its toooooo late just makes the track slippery and un rideale.

Surely dusty is an issue however track prep this time of the year can prove to be really tricky hot and sunny with a breeze makes things very difficult however you would have thought the way you go banging on about everything Poole is top class and what other clubs should aspire to the irony is mind blowing!

Steve Shovlar
Well that was the worst meeting of the year by the proverbial mile. A big crowd as expected but really nothing to cheer about as it was one way traffic all night. Not one race of note to be honest. We could see the track had been well watered before the meeting and there was a lot of track work going in up to 15 minutes before tapes up. But in the first heat we could see issues as it looked deep and grippy and riders were struggling. A track grade and watering after heat 2 didn’t make much difference and an early interval at heat 8 saw the blade come out, which certainly made the track better but unlike last week they didn’t water anymore, meaning the rest of the meeting was played out in dusty conditions. My guess is the riders didn’t want the track watered. Newcastle were as bad as expected and got off quite lightly with the scoreline. Two falls from Basso when in third and clear leading helped Newcastle from a bigger defeat. Poole also used reserve Danyon Hume in heat 15. As for Ben Basso, he looks a serious talent. He said after the meeting that he was very disappointed in his score, and was nervous before the meeting and over tried. It showed with the immense speed he has, too much for the track which resulted in a spill in his first, followed by another in heat 8 when miles clear. Perhaps he should learn that a win is a win and to throttle back a little. Three points if you win by a bikes length or 100 metres. Well done to Barker for living up to the number one jacket. Was on it all night. As for the others, we’ll just forget about it and move on. So Pirates go clear at the top of the league. Next stop is Edinburgh on Friday before coming back to Wimborne Road on Sunday for the visit of Birmingham and the ever popular Bomber Harris, who is bound to get a warm reception. BobC
Oh dear. The track was total garbage, and not for the first time this season. Its actually getting worse. Before a wheel had been turned you kind of thought it would be one sided. Sadly, that was the case. However, I would still like to see all 4 riders in each race for all 4 laps. Riders seemed to 'go missing' then re appear from the dust. It was awful. A bit surprised that referee Chris Durno didnt slap the 2 minutes on more than he did. If only to get it over and done with. No point in putting the boot in to Newcastle, they know their limitations and getting to the end of the season is their main objective. Feel for the Diamonds supporters. However I am totally fed up with excuse after excuse regarding our track preparation. Same goes for the scoreboard. Same old excuses, week after week. Its embarrassing. Big crowd, beautiful evening, perfect for showing all that is good with speedway. Not a chance with that track While Basso tried too hard at times, the track certainly didnt help. Throwing riders all over the place. Just pleased that every rider got away safely. Gawd knows what track surface we will get on Sunday afternoon v Birmingham. No need for sun cream, you will probably leave with a 'dust' tan anyway.

Bob, you should have gone over to the Isle Of Wight for either the handicap meeting last week or the last leg of the 3TT this week. Two superb meetings. Sounds like I got the half decent meeting at Poole last week - tonight sounds poor.

No fault of Newcastle.
