Let's hope so. The numerous 5 year plans from the BSPA were useless, so maybe 10 year plans work better ? Or it is just the BSPA are useless :D

In the case of the BSPL I think we'd be better off starting with small steps. How about a 5 day plan?

The problem with the 5 year plans from the BSPL are two fold, firstly they never last more one year before being scrapped & fundamentally they are almost always very similar.

The two big changes they made to turn the fortune of UK speedway didn't work the green helmet colour & numbering the home team 8-14 & the away team 1-7. Still there is always this year's big announcement to look forward too from the annual get together.

The BSPL have sold out to Eurosport and you will find sooner or later that screening U.K. racing will not be on the mainstream channel but on some App with highlights shown at 2.00 or 3.00 in the morning. If it was an option to show live racing or highlights why did they not go for highlights and manage a streaming service themselves. If these people in charge of speedway in this country had a brain they would be dangerous. They are inept and have single handily dragged U K speedway to the point where any chance of a credible product to sell has long gone. Speedway GP’s are not immune from the changes and dragging the sport into territories where it has little support or is worse still is not known seems foolhardy at best. Take a long hard look at the sport and it needs radical changes to format, racing and machines with a bit more of a level playing field so that riders have to hone their skills and not rely on rocket propelled bikes and ever increasing costs to make the riders think they are good when in reality it is who can hold on the best. The punters are not interested and yearn for close competitive racing not gate and go merchants. You can watch greyhound racing if that is all you want and look what is happening to this as a sport.

Oh come off it, how can you compare the BSPL with bloody Discovery/Eurosport who have paid money for the cream of the sport which every rider is gagging to be a part of, Poland, Czecho etc are prepared to pay thousands of pounds to get a round of etc etc, they can't go wrong!!!!!!

The only thing going for the BSPL in this scenario is that they have found people more stupid than them who have bought a pup believing that it is a serious sport with professional racers who believe that they are that good and can command a t v audience. It beggars belief that some so called professional broadcaster has been duped by a cross between second hand car dealer and insurance company selling policies that cover sweet fa and never pay out when you need. Didn’t realise that professional broadcasters did not do the due diligence on the governing body and could have the wool or the Kevlars pulled over their eyes but then again you only have to look at the BBC to realise that anything is possible.

Sky paid millions to the then BSPA for the worlds best riders to all ride over here...

That couldn't go wrong either I presume? :D

Not until SKY didn't pay anymore ......

If it had been watched by enough people Sky would have kept it going as the advertisers alone would have been happy for them to continue with it...

And if tracks had some kind of covers to increase their chances of running, rather than calling off meetings on 'damp but raceable' ' nights, I am sure Sky would have been more inclined to keep the contract open. As it stood, it cost them a lot of money to take all their kit to a track, set up, and have nothing to broadcast..

Bottom line is UK Speedway had 'the cream of the crop' over here and each top league track got over £100k a year for a long, long time, (literally tens of millions was put into the sport), and when the contract ended UK Speedway wasn't any better at all for all that money they had received...

And that is simply rank incompetence...

Sky realised that no matter how much money was thrown the was of the BSPA nothing would change. In fact the product got worse with each year sky was involved, not the fault of sky who gave the BSPA some big contacts. The BSPA squandered the opportunity with sky.

As for Eurosport isn't it been given to them pretty much free of charge, so they have nothing to lose!

Matt Ford said in the SS that the TV deal is around 10/11% of the Sky deal hence he decided it wasn't worth Poole being part of it...

The latter sky deals weren't that great from memory.

I think you any have to look at how Eurosport have marketed speedway to get an idea of the cost/value to them.

While the clowns are in charge of the circus speedway in the UK is only heading in one direction.

The sport in this country would be better off with no tv coverage at all, it’s descended into a made for tv sport with the live fan very much second in the thoughts.

TV was responsible for the tactical ride and the play offs, gimmicks designed to turn it into something artificially closer, never mind who the better team or rider was.

Also the only reason why these meetings now run into October is because of TV, everything should be done and dusted before October.

TV was supposed to help the sport, not aid it’s demise.

If you want TV to help the sport it should be a 15 minute highlight programme.

The TV could still show the "best race of the meeting" from four different angles, but the potential punters wouldn't  be aware it takes over two hours to run.

You really are overstepping the line between opinion and knowledge; the Sky deal was substantial but not as much as cycling got, included league sponsorship (Sky Sports Elite League for all those who said the BSPA/L couldn't find a big name league sponsor), an element of the TV fees had to be channeled into youth development hence the BSPA contribution to the British Under 21, establishing the Under 19 and so on - it wasn't a fortune but it helped and an element to contribute to the Team GB set up (Pre the current arrangement with Rob). The lower professional league also had to receive a sum to plug a gap because they were competing with live tv (this was their annual BSPA fees paid). Terry Russell reduced his perpetual commission to a fraction of his finders fee and below his contractual arrangements despite all the clever comments on here.

It was the cost of football and football only that led to the early settlement of the contract allowing Sky to save the cost of the live outside broadcasts - nothing to do with rain offs, audience figures or advertisers. Don't forget they binned the be all and end all Speedway GPs for the same reason, eff all to do with the BSPA/L

Broadcasters need live summer sport to fill their schedules so offering what appears to be brewsters to minority sports is a drop in the ocean compared to the cost of football

"broadcasters need live summer sport" LOL not laughing at you Byker, just the notion that speedway is a summer sport but those who run it seldom run it actually in the summer months

Surely May to September are the summer months?
