Upcoming Fixture Chaos

It's the home promoter that calls the fixture off though until the ref gets there

I think what they mean is, if there has been rain & everyone is at the meeting, away teams more desperate for points, unlikely to win, may push harder to get matches off.

Thus, the away promoter doesn't have to pay points money, only costs & gain a point etc etc.

Speedway mustn't go down the road of awarding points for rain-off's, they'll be no meetings taking place at all.

Cricket does manage it though

Stop comparing sports for a start.

Why shouldn't I compare to a sport that has completely reinvented itself from something that even the late great Bob Willis described as being attended by social misfits, to something that is playing to big crowds with the type of Attendance demographic that Polish speedway attracts?

It's a sport that is affected by the weather in just the same way that Speedway is and they have covers, they don't faff about trying to rearrange fixtures, everybody just accepts it and moves on. They even have a formula to deal with rain affected matches... I'm sure those with a nose for stats could work something out the Watson Racers & Royals rule

I think where cricket wins slightly is that the wicket areas are all the same size and can be covered quickly by a roof on wheels. Speedway doesn't have that luxury unfortunately. I'm not sure how cricket has actually re-invented yourself other than team colours and names and numbers but then again I'm not a huge cricket fan.

Erm... I told you so. This thread is now open for apologies

Luckily October last year was the No1 month for rainfall in the UK in 2020.

So, given Speedway doesn't rely on dry days and evenings to take place...

Absolutely no worries I am sure...  :D

It's funny how all of the people telling me clubs were right to call meetings off based on weather forecasts in the summer have gone strangely silent now ;)
