At the end of the day if the meeting is boring turn the Chanel over and watch a soap or love island. I know what I would rather watch

Best race was Batchelor v/s Pedersen, Howarth didn't really get going I also think Stead missed a trick when Howarth hit the tapes, why didn't he put Bickley in the re-run to get his third ride out of the way?  It was rather pointless as it happens because the other Tigers reserve Wright didn't trouble the scorers much but he didn't know that.   And I'm afraid Tigers won't make the playoffs unless there is a change.  Another thing I think Stead is getting wrong, in the absence of Holder and while Batchelor remains highest in the averages surely putting Ellis at 5, Howarth with Guest at 3 & 4 and Pickering at 2 would make most sense?

Sheffield, for all the money that's been spent on the stadium, has to be one of the worst in the country for viewing, home straight is too flat, it's like sitting behind a tall guy in the cinema, kids have no chance of seeing the action, 1st bend has disappeared, back straight out of bounds for years, if Odsal can fix/maintain terracing, why can't Sheffield ? 3rd(ish) & 4th bend poor for watching starts & 1st-2nd bend action. Can't see crowds improving even with the lifting of covid restrictions.

The back straight was always my favoured spot.

Only problem with opening up the "other side" at several tracks is that the crowd would then look very sparse...

Wouldnt generate much (any?) atmosphere either which standing together can at least help to improve..

In recent years the quality of racing has taken a nose dive to the point where I rarely go as I have been so disappointed with the racing.

Track prepared to deal with the heat and not to balloon dust.

As commented modern speedway is speed and the guy with the fastest bike normally wins. As most riders have similar equipment the only way you will get passing if someone makes a mistake and on a track like Sheffield where it’s open the throttle full and blast it, then that ain’t going to happen.

Batchelor shouldn’t be riding at number 1 but the averages demand he does. I can’t see how averages make any relevance to teams in this league when the standard has fallen so far.

Harris at reserve is an example of the system being wrong and allowing 7 rides makes no sense.

Why is Harris at reserve wrong? They built their team to the same points limit as everybody else, but they went for strength in depth rather than a big hitter like Batchelor. The advantage of the Peterborough approach is that you will always have at least one strong reserve. The only reason people are complaining is that it is Chris Harris, former GP rider who is currently occupying that birth - don’t think anything was said about Ulrich being at reserve at the beginning of the season, as it was generally accepted that his average was such that he fitted there

I enjoyed the Belle Vue meeting and so went again last night. Obviously, the racing was not as good but the scores were close and the balance tilted between the teams until the Panthers pulled away, so I enjoyed my evening out. Owlerton is perfectly capable of producing good racing, as the Belle Vue match showed. I don't know how many tracks I've seen speedway at but the common denominator is that I've seen poor meetings at all of them, including many at the great Hyde Road. My one visit to the NSS produced a turkey. It happens.

Is the Peterborough team any worse than Sheffield’s ? Of course it isn’t.
It’s the system of the current averages being meaningless when you have a rider being able to take 7 rides.

Totally different when you had teams built on strong  heat leaders and your 3 or 4 point riders were a reserve (Elite league some years ago) We don't have that luxury any more.

Teams in this league are more or less similar in ability now.

Harris for instance hasn’t suddenly become a poor rider, but for the sake of a few decimal points he gets 7 rides.

Don't forget if you build a top heavy team your top two can each take 5 rides - 6 if tactical substitutions come into play, which one could argue is equally "unfair". The problem is that their number one is struggling for form; the way things are going he could find himself at reserve before long, and taking 7  rides.

I assume Bradford Bulls (tenants) / Bradford Council (owners) can afford to pay for the upkeep of Odsal whereas Owlerton is privately owned.

I went last night, and also went to the Ipswich match. Those are the first speedway matches ive been to since the Sean Wilson, Andre compton days. (yes, a while ago)

The racing back then was usually gate and go. Sheffield generally picked alot of Racers than the smaller track specialists. There obviously wasnt alot of passing last night, but if you put your back into it, then you got the reward. With how warm conditions were, the track looked great, super grippy and fast, wasnt throwing up any dust. But i would like to see it more slicker and a real dirt line on the outside.

Will enjoy my future visits as a neutral.

Speaking of Love Island, a certain Rasmus Jensen took part in the Danish version of the show. Probably fully booked up already, but would be a good signing.
